Streaming coming soon 👽💚👽 • • @thomas.k6082 and I have been playing music together since middle school - both playing guitar and jamming to Sublime, Tom's tunes and whatever caught our ears. Throughout the years we have played whenever we're free and had previously played standards as a duo around 2017 or so. However, Tom's path to med school and my own development as a pianist + musician kept us apart for a few years. This album, THEN, is something of a return to our roots. Whereas NOW shows where we are currently. • THEN represents the tradition of utilizing 'standards' within the Great American Songbook and beyond as a stepping stone to discovering improvisation, composition and how we feel about the particular tunes as well as music more generally. • NOW is then the natural next step of coming into our own expressions. This includes improvisations, original compositions and more recent tunes that affect us in some way. • These albums are essentially live recordings with very little alterations after the fact. We think it's very important in the current climate of AI, automation, algorithmic complacency etc to maintain our humanity and display it in its full light - for better or worse - and we hope this comes across in this and all of the recordings. • These were recorded all as one project at @midnight.tea.chicago in the @fineartsbuilding over the past year or so. @calebwillitz was a tremendous help/co-creator doing all of the engineering/mixing/mastering. i am incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such a vibrant, generous + unwavering community of musicians/friends/family. i hope that together - through music - we can combat the insipid way in which those in power have fought endlessly to separate us in order to more effectively control us. was invited by @electricpianoco to play a gorgeous 1978 Rhodes that was lovingly refurbished. it was without a doubt one of the most beautiful instruments i have had the opportunity to play. its warmth, crispness + resonance guided the improvisation. many thank you’s to @riskwatch , @novakshreds (who also recently released an incredible album - Dark Canyon) + the rest of the crew !! hit them for all your electric piano needs !!!!✌️✌️✌️💚💚💚🙏🙏🙏

We quickly outlined the arrangement just before recording and left the rest to the muses. Tom and I both have an affinity for the Beatles and Lennon/McCartney's songwriting of that era so this fit in quite smoothly with the rest of the tunes. Lake Okeechobee bike trail (110 mile loop + what to expect) Welcome to Lake Okeechobee. This is one of those places you kind of have to want to be. It’s flat, wide open, and just keeps going. Wind coming off the water, light waves on one side, a canal on the other. You can’t see across it. It’s only about 8 feet deep, but it feels massive. There’s a levee that runs the entire lake, and you can bike about 110 miles around it. Some of it’s paved, some of it turns into rough gravel, and there are still a few gaps you have to work around. It even splits the Florida Trail in two, so you can kind of choose your own version of it. We’ve been biking sections of it and it’s been pretty rad. • Found a full gar skeleton sitting right by the water • Watched a 10ft alligator cross the canal • Then watched a bass boat come flying straight at it • Gator dipped under about 10 feet before impact like it’s done this before There’s basically no shade. The sun is relentless. And the wind does not stop. But at the same time, it’s a pretty interesting place to just exist for a while. Cattails, those artificial willow banks, random little perches where you can sit and take it all in. Not the kind of place everyone’s going to love—but if you’re into big, open landscapes, it’s worth seeing at least once. Over the last few months I've been a bit burnt out from the constant movement/hustle that comes with playing music for a living. The rewards are infinite in their effect on the heart and spirit but also exceptionally lacking in their material gain. This material gain is rarely the goal of any musician (at least those who I play with) + I hope for the spirit, energy + time of those creating music to be more recognized in the new year! • The nature of the world has been swinging in a direction of confusion, obfuscation and division. However, I've had the blessing of imaging a world beyond the often arbitrary lines created by humanity and that which we often reflect upon each other and within ourselves. I've imagined a world in which all are free to express + create our truest selves. This world is fueled by our own better natures and requires us to build within ourselves so that we can build without. This is not a naive thought but rather one founded in the communities often created around music. The generosity, connection and free self-expression I have witnessed is truly inspiring. Often it feels like destruction is inevitable but just as frequently it feels as though peace is knocking on my door and can be manifested immediately. I'm sure many can understand this duality as it is an inherent part of our very nature. • Here is an example of such expression. honored to be included on the new @606records compilation !! it's a celebration of the music growing lushly all over chicago and the community + connection that it creates 🍃🌺🍃 i often think of music as the expression/crystallization of a moment of a life lived with love in one's heart + spirit over flowing such that nothing else can contain it. this is one of those moments of expression. this is made ever more important by all of the strife that continues to accelerate towards an unknown end. • of course big big love to @btk28_ for the artwork + Drew for putting it together and for standing with the community for 10 years !! much success and abundance !! only physicals @606records - get it before it's gone !!

our one year wedding anniversary was last month ♡ we celebrated by thawing leftover wedding cake @littleflourshop made from out the freezer (ube/coconut buttercream still incred), crafted *paper* greeting cards for one another using extra save the dates/invitations & rummaged through our camera rolls for pictures/videos dated may 11, 2024🤳🏼 little did we know, big bro @mikeleary_ would surprise us just moments later with his super 8 footage 🎥 — the greatest gift is now having the ability to time travel back to our favorite day and re-live it over, and over (and over), again. { 🎼: the song playing was our processional song titled: ‘interlude for ern’ — written & recorded by @ertkit & @thomas.k6082 } not sure we’ll ever? be able to fully express the amount of love n gratitude we still have (and always will have) for everyone who played a part (and it was literally everyone bc we didn’t hire any vendors) — our family n friends just happen to be the most loving, most caring, most creative, & most talented at what they already do and we’re just so happy to have given them a platform to shine that day ♥ & now, in the words of @abolishvictory : 🗣️“HAPPY WEDDING EVERYBODY!
