“Die old, as young as possible”
Grateful for another lap around the sun on this amazing third rock from it. 🌍☀️
62 trips completed.
I feel incredibly blessed — for my family, my health, and the chance to wake up each day with purpose. I thank God for that daily. Life isn’t easy (for any of us), and I’ve had my share of challenges and struggles — but that’s part of the gift. The work, the growth, the climb.
A century ago, average life expectancy for men was about 60. I’m 62 — and still training and climbing close to what I could do at 30. Not by accident. It takes intention, discipline, two-a-day workouts, clean nutrition, and consistent recovery. No shortcuts anymore — just commitment.
If I could give two rules to every Masters athlete:
Rule #1: Do something physical EVERY day. Use it or lose it.
Rule #2: DON’T act your age — live like you’re half it.
Still training. Still learning. Still coaching. Still getting after it. Let’s go! 💪
Love to you all 🙏🏻

I BELIEVE in the power of climbing...and its life-changing potential. I believe that climbing brings passionate people together in a purposeful and peaceful endeavor, irrespective of background, ethnicity, religion, age and sex. I believe in partnership and the unity of the rope (and spot). I believe in the "unlikely" and "impossible", and that embarking on a meaningful journey is tantamount to success, regardless if the destination or goal is reached. I believe in a higher calling and that the minutes of our lives are precious and best lived with purpose and joy.

I love climbing with people who truly inspire me—and @rdclimber Ronnie Dickson is one of them.
Years ago, I had the privilege of coaching Ronnie during his run as a champion para climber. Today, he’s building success in a whole new arena as the owner of his own prosthetics clinic—while still climbing at a high level outdoors, with his sights set on 5.14.
I’m grateful to call Ronnie a friend… and proud to have him on the @physivantage Pro Team. 💪🏼
Here’s a quick clip of Ronnie smoothly dispatching Babyface (5.12b) at the Red River Gorge.

I’m stoked to have been there to witness and belay @jjenk13 on her hardest ever send on Tuesday…Swingline (5.13d/8b)! 💪🏼
Jess was my first employee at @physivantage (6 years ago), and I’m blessed to have her helping grow the brand AND exemplify the core principles of training, nutrition, and performance climbing. 🙏🏻
Way to go, Jess!

45 years ago today (Easter Sunday ✝️, 1981)—one of the most memorable days of my climbing life.
At 17, I was obsessed with a route called Foops (5.11c) in the Shawangunks. I’d seen it on the cover of Mountain Magazine the year before, and it lit a fire in me.
While most high school guys were chasing girls…
I was dreaming about—and training for—Foops. (I even built a training “Foops simulator” across the basement ceiling at my parent’s house!)
That Easter Sunday, I sent it on my second try.
Established 14 years earlier by John Stannard, Foops was then a true testpiece—rarely free climbed at the time, and perhaps not yet done by a teenager (though I know my friend @hugh.herr did it sometime in the early ’80s).
What made it even more memorable was how the weekend unfolded…
My best friend, Jeff Batzer, and I had driven from Pennsylvania to Cannon Cliff (New Hampshire) for a big objective—but got sleeted off the wall Saturday morning. Total shutdown.
So we pivoted. Drove back south. Chased better weather.
And that disappointment turned into one of the most meaningful sends of my life.
Funny how that works. #KeepTheFaith
Grateful for the journey… and for great partners like Jeff. So many memories forged on the rock. 🧗♂️

* EXTEND YOUR PERFORMANCE “PEAKSPAN”! *
Most people think longevity is about lifespan (how long you live) or healthspan (how long you stay disease-free).
But there’s a new concept from aging researchers that may matter even more for athletes:
Peakspan.
Peakspan is the period of life when you maintain near-peak physical and cognitive performance—when you’re still strong, capable, sharp, and performing close to your best.
The truth is that most human performance systems peak in our late 20s or early 30s, and then slowly decline:
• VO₂ max
• muscle power
• reaction time
• mitochondrial function
• recovery capacity
But here’s the encouraging part:
Peakspan is highly trainable.
Your daily habits can dramatically influence how long you stay near your peak.
The 6 habits that extend Peakspan
🏋️ Train strength regularly
Muscle mass is a longevity organ. Strength training slows biological aging.
🏃 Maintain aerobic fitness
Cardio supports mitochondrial health and metabolic resilience.
⚡ Preserve power
Explosive movement helps maintain fast-twitch fibers and neuromuscular function.
🥗 Protect metabolic health
Stable blood sugar and healthy body composition reduce inflammation.
🦾 Load connective tissue
Consistent training keeps tendons and ligaments strong.
😴 Prioritize recovery
Sleep and nutrition support hormonal balance and tissue repair.
Why this matters
Peakspan isn’t just about sports performance.
It determines how long you can:
• move well
• stay independent
• remain mentally sharp
• pursue the activities you love
As a climber of 50 years, I’m grateful that in my early 60s I’m still training and climbing with much of the capacity I had decades ago.
Extending my Peakspan has become one of my biggest motivations.
And it’s a big reason I founded @physivantage Nutrition—to help athletes support performance, recovery, and longevity.
If you’re over 30, this concept should matter to you.
Because the goal isn’t just to live longer.
It’s to stay strong, capable, and adventurous for decades longer.
