Repost from @2050.plus * Any intervention in the cultural domain, including the work of spatial practitioners, does not sit in a vacuum, but as a direct response to the circumstances of contemporaneity. In today’s war-torn words, we are humbled to announce the opening on April 16th of "de bello. notes on war and peace", the first group exhibition at Gres Art 671 in Bergamo. Curated and designed by @2050 + and @gres_art_671 , based on an idea by war journalists Salvatore Garzillo and Gabriele Micalizzi. “de bello. notes on war and peace” is an attempt to narrate war as a universal social and cultural phenomenon, with a particular focus on the human experience and the emotional states individuals endure in the face of conflict. From Alberto Burri to Claire Fontaine, from Anselm Kiefer to Lawrence Abu Hamdan, from Joseph Beuys and Marina Abramović to Cristina Lucas and Maja Bajevic, from Andrea Gastaldi to Boris Mikhailov and Arcangelo Sassolino, including Monira Al Qadiri, Mohamed Choucair, Masbedo, Total Refusal, and many more. Thirty-seven artists explore the human condition in an exhibition spanning six centuries, reflecting on the tensions and narratives shaped by conflict. • Curated by @gres_art_671 (@francacquati ) and @2050 + (@ippopeste , @eripet ) Based on an idea by @salgar and @gabrielemicalizzi With exhibition design and scenography by @2050 + (@fralantieri , @sai_____i , @eripet , @ippopeste , #raphaeluhl) Production and installlation by @altofragile_studio Visual identity by @nationhood.it • “de bello. notes on war and peace” 16.04.2025 – 12.10.2025 @gres_art_671 Bergamo, Italy #2050+ #gresart671 #debello #notesonwarandpeace

“The portrayal of resistance to abuses of power as a demonic conspiracy is a phenomenon that has repeated itself throughout history, right up to the present day. Exaggerating ‘crimes’ to mythic proportions to justify horric punishments has been an effective way to terrorize society, isolate victims, discourage resistance, and make people fearful of undertaking actions that were once considered normal. McCarthyism and the ‘war on terror’ have followed this same dynamic. The witch was the communist and terrorist of her time.” From the interview "Daughters of Witches. On Memory, Commons, and Capitalism", with Silvia Federici by yours truly, written for issue n. 5 of @salietabacchijournal (@elisacarassai , @claraaqua__ , @leonardo_pellegrino ). @rominatassinari for the generous help Accompanying photos by @marksommerfeld Here is the link to access the full text (in eng + ita): http://surl.li/nutnyh

Some months ago I interviewed Silvia Federici and I'll forever be inspired by her radicality, precision and intelligence. The interview, entitled "Daughters of Witches. On Memory, Commons, and Capitalism", was written for issue n. 5 of @salietabacchijournal , and my deepest gratitude goes to their team (@elisacarassai , @claraaqua__ , @leonardo_pellegrino ).  Many thanks also to fearless @rominatassinari for helping me prepare the interview and to @marksommerfeld for the very special photos.  A short extract from the text: “I suffered a lot while writing this book [Caliban and the Witch]. It was harrowing for me. Even now, talking about it brings tears to my eyes – I assure you – because when I first read the accounts of these tortured women… Imagine being stripped naked in front of only men, who then show you the torture devices, who prick you with needles, knowing that at the end of this ordeal, there is a stake. Just think about it... Before being burned alive, they were gagged so they wouldn’t scream, so their cries wouldn’t be heard. They were burned so that they wouldn’t distress the public too much. That’s why I feel compelled to be their voice. They couldn’t scream; we must scream for them. We must scream for them.” The fight against the erosion of commons that Silvia discusses is also the erosion of the commons of knowledge.
