Brooklyn! Ami kicks off her three part Unheard residency this Sunday. For her first edition, she will perform an improvised set, in-the-round, featuring ZT Christensen & Michael Beharie.
About the residency:
Unheard is a music series that explores listening, curiosity, and spontaneity through collaborative improvisation. An artist-in-residence leads three in-the-round performances throughout the year featuring rotating groups of multi-instrumentalists.
Presented by @piquenique.nyc
Earlier this spring, I was connected with Sharada Shashidhar, an incredible up and coming jazz vocalist based in LA. Today, her album, Soft Echoes, has been released into the world. This strong, talented woman orchestrated and led a band of heavy hitting jazz players to bring her vision to life, resulting in this gorgeous record. Itâs been an absolute honor to work with her and watch it all unfold.
Her vocal stylings contain multitudes, but as @gillespeterson said, Sharada is ââŚlike the jazz Kate Bushâ. Do yourself a favor and go listen to this record!

Visited the âGreat Stalacpipe Organâ in Luray Caverns with Ma. Dubbed the âworldâs largest instrumentâ. She visited here with my grandparents 45 - 50 years ago and thought it would be a nice thing to stop and see (it was).
This reminded me of David Byrneâs âPlaying the Buildingâ from â05, I wonder if he took inspiration from these cavernsâŚ
PRATIVA - she was one of a kind. Jovial, loving, determined, maybe a little dramatic, and maybe a little stubborn. Her and my grandfather provided a bridge to so many Bengali families in the US in the 70s, giving them a sense of community and belonging. Through their hand in founding Kallol of NJ, and later with Ananda Mandir, they left an undeniable mark for future generations (something I often took for granted in my youth). She cooked like no other, enjoyed a margarita or two, beat all the uncles at âTeen Pattiâ (Indian Poker) every holiday, and never gave up despite all the obstacles before her. Time to rest after a long, well lived journey. Thanks for everything, Dida. Om Shanti
