I’m still in awe of these moments. When we pick each other up from the darkness and the doubt.
Thank you to everyone who’s a part of the @brooklynchoirproject for making space and digging in with me. This is why I did what I do

@elliottskinner needs no introduction, but we’ll do it anyway:
singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist - elliott skinner is a thoughtful creator with an ethereal approach to folk and soul music. his compositions are a beautiful example of what comes from the lineage of powerful and intentional Black expression.
elliott’s sound is both intimate and layered, marked by a deep focus on storytelling and a continuing of the Black radical music tradition. through his music, he aims for a freeing of the mind, digging into everything that love sits under, and a breakdown of the constructs that divide us.
we are beyond lucky to be bringing “recalling” to you, with elliott, arranged by @kenyonduncanmusic and sung by a powerhouse 88-person choir (that’s us, @brooklynchoirproject ) ♥️

In a couple weeks, on May 1st and 2nd, coincidentally the anniversary of me moving out of New York, I’ll be in Brooklyn singing my song RECALLING with a dedicated group of 85 singers that make up the @brooklynchoirproject .
I remember the moment I started making music for the little boy who was trying to understand himself. That choir kid who felt the power of community in the harmony.
We continue that intention for all the choir kids, turned artists, who yearn for that connection.
Come out and hear this collection of wonderful artists who will be singing their songs FOR THE CONGREGATION!!!
And swipe to hear a preview - from the first time we sang my song together
Getting over a cold, but started learning one of my favorite songs today. 4 sentences that lament in the reality of process. So often we perform, thinking if we only show our best selves, then we will be sooner accepted. Sadly that mask becomes how we interpret reality. These platforms — these industries, we mistakenly assume run on merit, actually run on quality of performance — numbers. If we were to strive for what is real and impactful vs what is “good,” maybe we’d have less mediocrity. Less distractions. Less politics and more social action. More art and less entertainment.
We must always be in progress/in process. As our world and universe are constantly expanding, we must expand with it.
These performances are killing us. This ego covering insecurity. The lust for power and control. Let it go. Don’t lose yourself the idea that you must have it all together all the time. The cracks in your facade will chip away at your soul yearning to be understood. It may be a more difficult journey but I promise you it will be filled with color, depth, and growth
I’m glad it’s getting warmer.
Maybe we will become wiser.
