Allies in Activism * is today.
Allies in Activism is a one-day event taking place in Edinburgh led by Jack Hunter, Ellen Renton and Independent Arts Projects.
We very much hope that this event marks the beginning of something.
This event has been made possible with support from Birds of Paradise, Eden Court Theatre, Federation of Scottish Theatre, Imaginate, Magnetic North, National Theatre of Scotland, The Work Room & Unlimited.
* The title of the event came from an article in The Stage at the beginning of the year, where arts leaders were asked about the year ahead. Jenny Sealey (Graeae’s Artistic Director) was quoted “as saying: “For companies like Graeae, this past year has been fraught with Personal Independent Payments, Access to Work and Universal Credit. We need more allies in our activism. 2026 needs to be all-embracing to ensure the theatrical landscape is rich with diversity of people and narratives.“
IAP gratefully acknowledge support from @creativescots

We will explore how we can build a safer, more supportive arts sector for disabled and neurodivergent artists, & arts workers.
At a time when Access to Work grants are being slashed, we want to talk about what we can do in the performance sector in Scotland.
Register by 10am, Mon 30 Mar

Adam's Big Race is a new children's story that I have written and narrated for BBC Sounds about swimming, sight, and good friends.
Written as a reminder for all of us that accessibility often starts with being kind and being honest, and written with love for
everyone who's on a "great team" with me ♥️
Earlier this year I was honoured to have my portrait taken by @joshua.bratt on a very windy day in Edinburgh. The photograph is part of Seen - an exhibition showcasing the lives of blind and partially sighted people, running from the 12th - 14th of September at the RNIB Grimaldi Building in London. Free tickets are available via Eventbrite.
I hope that visitors to the exhibition learn more about visual impairment – the breadth of conditions that sit under that umbrella term and the diversity of this community. I hope people reflect on the assumptions they make about others and what is possible for them. Most importantly to me, in a time where such dangerous rhetoric around disabled people’s relationship to work is so prevalent, I want everyone to think about those who aren’t pictured, how their lives and stories all hold worth.

A beautiful collaboration full of immersive soundscapes and powerful, moving poetry — really captures the feeling of home in Scotland for us.
Gutted we couldn’t make it to @skyelivefest this weekend for its 10th anniversary, especially to see these two who were playing alongside an amazing mix of electronic and contemporary Scottish folk acts.
A festival we've grown very fond of over the years and will make our return to for sure ⛰️🏴
Last week also marked the 5 year anniversary for this amazing release - get involved if you haven't already and enjoy these highlights we've put together 💿💿

Thank you thank you to @weareunltd and
@artistsimaginate for the support to create PALS, a musical theatre piece for blind and partially blind children. "PALS is the story of a lifelong friendship between two young girls, one sighted and one blind/visually impaired told through text, song, and movement.
Experience the story from sensory dens, making sight secondary to other senses, while exploring friendship, identity and the impact of adult expectations."
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped get the project to this point, more soon!
