Time to let things go it seems. I'd like to get this one out before the end of the year. The recording of my live set from @low_indigo_ 's ambient etc series from September is up now on my bandcamp and soundcloud. Many thanks to @michael__red
for the endless support and platform to do my thing. Thanks to @ra_ra_raj_ra_ra and @piusings for the photos and video from the event 💓.
I had this feeling like "I didn't realease anything AGAIN this year" and then I remembered this and my other set for Avril 14th which is like 2hrs of music. Not the most digestible content for the algo or the average listener, but hey I'm just doing my thing. Real album with real tracks is in the works.
So I've been writing and practicing my live set alot and since these machines are sending all types of midi data I always fantasized about having generative visuals that were tightly synced with the music. Something that audio reactivity allows to an extent.
I thought of learning touch designer but everyone kept telling me midi implementation is pretty tedious and I didn't have time to learn a new tool just for that purpose. Anyway I'm working on this web app, which has been a learning experience as well but ties more directly into some of the other types of work that I do.
It takes midi inputs and allows you to connect notes and midi cc’s to different visual parameters. On top of that it syncs with incoming midi clock and all the different types of animations can have independent musical timing allowing for alot of variance
At the moment the visuals are based on a previous project but I plan to make a system to integrate p5(or something similar) and expose it's variables to the midi mapping system, so that I can be even more configurable and customizable. Theres preset scenes and you can save your scenes and mapping too.
I will say it's not optimized for general use, so if you don't have a decent GPU, the 3d graphics might not work very well for you.
This is my toy but you can play with it at www.lamina.live

Well, life continues to be strange and beautiful. I'm 10yrs sober today! Insane to think about in retrospect. Debated in my head whether to make this post since I like to joke around on here and keep the personal stuff in person. So I'll probably delete this eventually idk
I realized a decade ago that I was doing alot of harm to myself and others and needed to change. Folks like to say people don't change but I don't believe that. Most people dont WANT to change until they have to, that's the truth imo.
Stopping drinking was fairly easy for me but the harder parts of sobriety I'm still trying to figure out, like how to be vulnerable as an artist, how to truly be myself in my work and let people see that without a dark place to retreat to and hide in. That's a challenge, thankfully I enjoy a challenge.
Bowie said once never stay in the shallow end, wade out into the water that is just a little too deep for you, that's when you know you are in the right place to do something exciting. That's the energy I'm channeling for this next decade.
Tuesday the 25th (yup that's today) BYE BYE FOR NOW pop-up at Bside Radio. 10pm-onward.
I'm blowing this popsicle stand at the end of the week and I want to see you! Come down to @bsidedotradio and help me warm the place up. I'm going to do open decks style hangs - all genres welcome.
