Mass timber + Brooklyn + patio drinks = a pretty great Friday. We had a fantastic time touring the recently completed 179 N 10th - "Timberburg" (NYC’s tallest mass timber building), hosted by @woodworksusa . 👉 Element5 Sales Director Lee Scott, President & CEO of @hasslachernoricatimber - Christoph Kulterer and Erik Churchill, were happy to lead the group across the street where we hosted drinks at MyMoon with @metropolitantimber to keep the conversation going. It was an amazing turnout on a beautiful sunny afternoon, with great energy, and lots of talk about where mass timber is headed next. Proud to see 1120 Ossington, our mass timber affordable housing project has been named a finalist in the AZ Awards Social Good category, recognizing design that drives real community impact. 🏗️ Developed with partners @assemblycorp_ , @smartdensity , @mcCallumSather , @aspectengineers and @loftinmanagment for St.Clare's Multifaith Housing Society, this 25-unit, 3-storey project shows how thoughtful design can deliver affordable, dignified housing. The multi-unit residential project is a gorgeous thoughtful building inside and out. It features beautiful exposed cross-laminated timber ceilings and public art on the exterior, showing that affordable housing can be efficient, functional and beautiful. 👉 If you believe housing is essential infrastructure, and that great design has a role to play in it, please cast your vote for this project in the People’s Choice Award voting. 📢 Mass timber in action in the heart of Brooklyn! 📢 We’re excited to be part of the upcoming WoodWorks Mass Timber in Multi-Family Housing + Tour of 179 North 10th St., along with @metropolitantimber this Friday, May 1 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM! This is a unique opportunity to see one of New York City’s most ambitious timber projects up close. 🏗️ At 7 storeys and 42,500 sq. ft., Timberburg is currently the tallest modern mass timber building in NYC, showcasing how Element5 CLT and Glulam can deliver both performance and design in dense urban environments. 🌲From exposed timber balconies and columns to a fully integrated prefabricated structure, this project highlights what’s possible when mass timber meets high-performance design, including a pursuit of Passive House certification. 📢 Project Update – Thunder Woman 📢 Mass Timber at the Heart of a Healing and Housing Project in Toronto The Thunder Woman Healing Lodge is an 18,000 sq. ft., 6-storey transitional housing and healing facility designed to support formerly incarcerated Indigenous women as they reconnect with culture, community, and independence. 🌲The spectacular looking building's structure incorporates cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor and roof panels, along with Glulam beams and columns, creating a hybrid structural system that delivers both structural performance and architectural warmth. 👉Mass Timber and IPD Drive Efficiency Element5 manufactured the mass timber elements were manufactured, and delivered them in sequence, enabling rapid, precise installation of the building’s structure while minimizing disruption on site. 🏗️ Through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach, early collaboration between the architect, engineers, contractor, and Element5 engineers and designers optimized the design for manufacturing, logistics, and installation, improving efficiency and reducing project risk. ♥️Once complete, the building will include healing lodge programming spaces, transitional housing units, and wrap-around supports, creating a unique model that combines Indigenous healing traditions with modern sustainable construction. 🌟Projects like this demonstrate how mass timber can deliver more than just structural efficiency — it can help create spaces that are restorative, culturally meaningful, and community-focused. 👷🏽Project Team Owner / Client: @twhlsto Development / Project Management: @assemblycorp_ General Contractor: @loftinmanagment Architects: @mccallumsather in collaboration with @smoke_architecture_inc & Susan Speigel Architect Mass Timber Supplier: Element5 Mass Timber Erector: @fab.structures Structural Engineer: @thorntontomasetti Mechanical Engineer: Hammerschlag & Joffe Inc.
