Hey Everyone, It’s been a while. I thought to peek out a little to confirm the absolute worst kept secret - yes, The Black Book: Old Scores, is happening, with Severance producer, Nicky Weinstock and @invention.studios , joining the team as producer. The last two years have been frenetic for me, writing what’s become my favourite script along with my friend, @bunmiajakaiye , and working with Nicky, Mimi @miseducationofmimi , and Ashley to raise unprecedented capital for the production of this historic production, with support from, Adino Capital, Mango Tree and Blooming Caravan. The Black Book became the most successful Nigerian film globally and it was important that the sequel meets the high standards set in our 2023 film. I’m excited to say that you are going to absolutely love Old Scores. Richard Mofe-Damijo @mofedamijo returns as Paul Edima, with Wongi Ibom @wongi_ibom as sidekick! A brand new story. New characters. New world, painted with my home state in the Niger Delta as a breathtaking backdrop. Some of your favourite characters have returned, but the new characters will absolutely blow you away. Making Old Scores was an amazing experience - the biggest Nigerian production to date, backed by a Nigerian and International crew, 300 strong, and cast joining us from Nigeria, UK, US Japan etc. to make tell a truly incredible film. Every film is made by believers and I am deeply grateful for the friends who joined me on this journey. Grateful for Yinka Edward @yinka.edward , who returned as DOP and Co-Producer, alongside Yolanda Okereke @yolandaokereke , also Costume Designer, with Joshua Enakahire @joshuaenakarhire as Assistant Director and Mosadoluwa Olaleka as Production Designer. We really can’t wait to share Old Scores with you!

The Black Book: Old Scores. It begins. Slide 2. October 3, 2025. We are rolling cameras on Shoot Day 1. High spirits. Lots of high fives, hugs, and welcoming of friends. After a year of prep, we are finally here. The set looks amazing - and rightly so, we’ve been building since June. Pictures look amazing. Actors are bringing it, we are finally making this film…rain. It wasn’t so sudden as to feel like your village got you, but it was pretty hot and still until then. The rain poured down like God was dumping a bucket of water. A solid sheet of water falling from the sky. And again on day 2. And day 3. And 4. By the end of the week, we’d lost 5 days and it began to look like we might not actually be making this film. Yeah, silence wasn’t the enemy this time. It was rain. Slide 3 was the moment. In the water with my leading man, him giving his all, me in awe, wondering how I managed this to convince this man to jump into this swamp river. We are water people - we know the water and its creatures, and the water knows us, yet what if? What if? RMD as Paul Edima is a gift and I still can’t believe my good fortune. You’re going to love all over again. Slide 4. Some days were hard. The nights were always hard. And here, 9AM, the morning after a long night. This is the picture I will place as evidence before God - I gave my all. And that is how we begin. The Black Book: Old Scpres. A film by Editi Effiong.

Two years ago, my first feature film, #TheBlackBook was released on @Netflix . It would go on to become a global hit and Nigeria’s most successful film of all time on the platform. Thank you all for watching and pushing us to greatness. Deeply grateful to my cast, crew, investors, and everyone who was part of that journey. The Black Book changed everything, opened big doors, and allowed us dream even bigger dreams. We know now for sure, nothing is impossible. I can’t wait to share what we have coming.

What a month! Thanks November. You had everything. Went from “Oh, it’s just eye surgery” to “well, look at that”. Had one of my most disappointing work calls to literally my best work news ever. Created something really cool. Met some really cool people. Toronto, Paris, London. And lots of happy faces.

Lock your focus on your goals and get to work delivering them. Everything else is noise. Seriously, everything else is noise, including the temporary setbacks you really should have expected to meet along the way anyway.

Habit. Growing up, I always sat with hunch. I also never stood straight, I always tilted to the left or something ridiculous like that. And my poor mother, oh, she tried to if didn’t help that I picked up programming and would sit at a computer for 12 hours a day. My poor mother. At 20, I had a freak accident during salsa and slipped a disc. Haha, almost 20 years of chronic back pain followed. I suffered. No, I suffered, but lived with it, believing this was my life for the rest of it. I tried physios, met chiropractors, lmao. Nothing seemed to work. My sleep suffered for years and I dreaded growing older as a result. Nobody wants to imagine a life of chronic back pain as an old person. Eventually, I shoulder injury forced me back into a physio’s office. This time, the physio didn’t just try to solve my injury, but walked me through the basics of body, and specifically, back structure. I was put on a posture and strengthening programme. How to walk, how to position the shoulders, how to sit. Most importantly, I was put on a stretching regimen, because, apparently if you stretch your hamstrings, it releases pressure from your back. A few months of consistently following the program, not only did my back pain disappear, my back became so much stronger. Oh, and I now walk and sit pretty straight, so much that my mother actually noticed. After years of trying to make me fix my posture as a child, back injury finally did the trick 😂😂😂
