✊🖖🏼 Edward B. Gieda III (@ebgiii ), vocalista de An Albatross, estuvo de vacaciones en la Ciudad de México con su chica, Raquel. Se trajo algunos discos de 7” y pinchó un set de soul psicodélico —música con alma que influenció a su agrupación de hardcore para raros— en Casa Calypso (@casa_calypso ), gracias a Carlos René (@carlosrene.mx ). La velada se extendió al 2x1 del Mala Vida (@malavida.expendio ) y, como buenos nerds, tratamos de descifrar si existe una relación entre los años sesenta (mods) y los noventa (hardcore DIY con estética de Spock). Tal vez el responsable de todo esto sea Ian Svenonius (Nation of Ulysses / The Make-Up). Esperamos que, en un futuro, Eddie regrese y pinche sus discos en una fiesta. 🪩 Los esperamos en Casa Calypso (@casa_calypso ) el próximo miércoles 8 de abril para disfrutar del set de soul psicodélico de Edward B. Gieda III (@ebgiii ), el vocalista de An Albatross. El grupo An Albatross se formó en Pensilvania, Estados Unidos, a finales de la década de 1990 y hoy en día es legendario en la escena DIY de hardcore. Desde sus inicios se hicieron notar por su estilo lleno de caos, sus presentaciones enérgicas y su experimentación a la hora de crear canciones cortas, con estructuras rítmicas extrañas en las que sobresalen los sintetizadores. De hecho, Thurston Moore, uno de los fundadores de Sonic Youth, a través de redes sociales como Instagram ha demostrado ser fanático de la agrupación, que igualmente fue encasillada en subgéneros como el screamo o el noise a comienzos del siglo XXI. Su álbum de 2003, «We Are the Lazer Viking», marcó época y en distintos países comenzaron a formarse grupos que querían hacer ruido. Además, la banda se comenzó a hacer notar más por su estética influenciada por bandas de los años sesenta y setenta como MC5. Edward, incluso en el texto que viene incluido en la «HARDCORLECCIÓN» de Javier Ibarra, publicada por medio de REVENGE OF THE NERDS MX, recuerda que no podían dejar de escuchar el casete «Kick Out the Jams» de las leyendas del proto-punk y el garage rock de Detroit. «Éramos un grupo vulgar y pretendíamos crear un espectáculo que contrastara con la escena DIY de la que veníamos. Para nosotros, eso era rocanrol», explica B. Gieda III en la publicación. El vocalista, quien estará por primera vez en la Ciudad de México, traerá parte de su colección de discos y pinchará un buen número de canciones que seguramente ninguno de nosotros conocemos.
