Yesterday I ran the perimeter of Philadelphia. An inordinate amount of time was spent mapping the #philly4corners route to create a clean, safe, feasible experience for runners, walkers, and cyclists to enjoy (link in bio). My sincere hope is that others will give this challenge a try, either in sections or as one big run/ride, and do something epic this summer as all of our races have been canceled. Thank you @ebgiii , @darren.l.d , @jtbpg @wescelestino and my brother @frank_gagliardi45 for clicking off some miles with me, and @curlgirl73 & @shannan.with.an.a for meeting me along the way with mobile support. Philly Trail Marathon: 1 Gagz: 0 (sorta kinda) TL;DR: One more step can solve a lot 😉 . Was cruising at a comfortable pace until I lost focus at mile 11ish and suffered a nasty fall that flung me onto some asshole rocks. Landed right on my ribs and got the wind knocked outta me. Did my best to regain my composure but running was no longer an option. I was reduced to a gentle trot on the sporadic, non-technical flats but otherwise had to hike the remainder of the marathon. My left ribcage and hip are a growing series of black n blue contusions. It hurts to take a deep breath, and I've gotta gooey laceration on my forearm to complement a swollen left pinky that won't bend without a fight. But I finished ✅ Eyes on the Cougar 💯 . Am I bummed? Yeah man, absofuckinlutely I'm bummed. Had goals for this race and was genuinely excited to see where I'm at with my @wser training. Prior to the fall I felt great! Was on pace to finish sub 4:25 and possibly go on to win the old guy division... With 0️⃣ DNFs in my 14Y running career I've learned over the years that you don’t find grit at the finish line. It's forged somewhere around mile ‘I can’t.’ Grit rises to meet you at the precise moment comfort packs up and leaves. When your excuses go quiet, grit gets loud. It doesn’t ask you any questions. Grit answers them - but I really didn't need that aching reminder yesterday 🤣 . Apart from all of the above - I love being a part of this community and spending time with my people 🖤 HUGE thank you to Stephan & all of the volunteers at @uberendurancesports .
