The Mutable Challenge is a tribute to the late, great Mutable Instruments, the most innovative of all Eurorack makers, who ended their journey in 2022. In this challenge, participants begin with a rack entirely filled with Mutable Instruments modules and have one hour to create anything they like—be it a tune, a riff, a sound effect, or even pure noise—to showcase the unique and creative potential of these iconic modules. With official Mutable patch cables and just two other pieces of gear allowed—an Arturia KeyStep 37 and a Cre8audio Assembler mixer—participants are free to let the Mutable magic unfold.
Dutch Modular Fest is thrilled to welcome
@gazwilliamsbass with this special project. Even more, we are excited to announce four incredible artists who will rise to the challenge: Jungle of Wires, Yonga Sun, Paul Tas & Oguz Buyukberber.
@jungleofwires — A Netherlands-based live modular performer, Jungle of Wires (aka Mandy Bakker) crafts soundscapes that are bouncy, moody, trippy, and dreamy. Her imagination drives every sonic texture she explores through modular synthesis.
@yonga.sun — A true musical chameleon, Yonga is celebrated for his dynamic, inventive, and adventurous drumming. He flows through sound with aquatically agile finesse, combining power, subtle color, simplicity, and virtuosity.
@paultas_official — A multifaceted sounds artist, inventor, and hardware hacker based in Amsterdam, Paul (founder of Error Instruments and Error Empire) designs and builds custom musical instruments and hardware, forging nostalgic “lo-fi future” textures that blend analog warmth with tinkered innovation.
@buyukberber — An Amsterdam-based clarinetist, composer, improviser, and visual artist, whose work integrates contemporary composition, jazz, improvisation, Turkish musical heritage, modular synthesis, and visual art. He performs under the alias OX Barber and has released over 50 albums—including on renowned ECM and Blue Note labels.
Let the creative journey begin.
