Growing up in the cultural desert of Gaffney, SC I didn't have many signposts as to where to go. We had dial up but that was reserved for finding my alter-ego Amanda (lovely129342) a boyfriend- but that's a story for another play. I did however have a library pass for lunch and they got a fresh copy of People magazine every week. I would keep abreast of the happenings of my favorite celebrities and that is where 13 year old me spied a photo of
@anagasteyer (wearing Todd Oldham nonetheless) in the revival of Rocky Horror Picture Show. What was this, I asked? I had never heard of, no one around me would have been hip to it. Afterba little research I went to Blockbuster that weekend and rented it. I had the house to myself and pulled a kitchen chair close to the tv, so I could really experience this thing that I somehow knew would hold some holy truth. I watched it, rewound it and watched it again. I couldn't sleep that night. It broke open the safe of my heart's desire and let out all the riches. But there was no one to share the elation with. Fast forward to senior graduation, a new girl at school with a c*nty bob (Jessica Hazel, where are you?) and the coolest attitude asked me what I was doing for the afters. I said that I was reluctantly going to the country club party with the rich christian girls and she said "fuck that let's go the midnight show." And there, a virgin in all the ways, I began to find the freaks. They say look for the helpers, well in most cases, those are often the freaks. I eventually found a whole town full and have had a long history of Rocky moments, including playing Dr. Scott & Fat Columbia for
@boyradio at the Deep End. Last night thanks to the undeniable genius of
@pamstinkleton I finally got to see the stage show and let me tell you... it was not a moment too soon. And what a blessing to see one of my dear hearts
