I wrote the latest Going Pop over Mother’s Day weekend, reflecting on how we are all rocket ships, shedding our parts, searching for a celestial body that resembles home.

On the latest episode of Going Pop: My 3yo tags along for a studio visit of Mojdeh Rezaeipour‘s artwork about Iranian student uprisings, I wander around Frieze frozen, and I soft-announce a major life change.

Nov/Dec in Japan photo dump📍
Hoping to get the time in Jan to organize, process, and WRITE about everything. I do not have all the words yet because it was so overwhelmingly hard and beautiful and revealing at once. Thank you to the absolute best people @drzzl@s.mhuar@desbriann@frislysoberanis and ofc dear Sunny Dooley for believing and contributing to @waysofknowingfilm . It is not easy to trust one another to have one, big international adventure! And to all of our old/new friends in Hiroshima/Nagasaki/Tokyo — @erikakobayashiek Matsunaga-sensei Watanave-sensei Tomozawa-sensei Yamaguchi-sensei Kanade-san Hibiki-san…so so so many people who made this possible. Thank you for giving us such great memories and beingpart of our lives. Cheers to many more!
It has long been a dream of ours to bring Ways of Knowing to Japan, as a bridge for global communities who have experienced nuclear history firsthand. 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the WW2 atomic bombings, and we are humbled and honored to screen to audiences in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Tokyo - including hibakusha (atom bomb survivors) and their descendants.
We’re grateful to our friends here who have thrown their support behind this feat - especially Kyoko Matsunaga, professor at Hiroshima University who translated the film into Japanese, and @erikakobayashiek who opened her community to us to make these screenings possible.
Thanks also to @weareagog and @savingplaces for generously supporting this tour!
What a day with Ways of Knowing looks like. Nuclear research work looks very different here than DC, Vienna, and elsewhere. Thank you friends @rockt922022 and @shawna.be for welcoming us and just seeing where the day would lead. More soon!

Taking a moment to amplify the community calls to support Bobby Leonard Mason, a protector of Navajoland who I befriended years ago when we started filming “Ways of Knowing,” a short film about Diné response to the history of uranium mining.
Bobby was arrested and remains detained in Flagstaff, AZ since last week after an incident involving his actions against the renewed hauling of uranium ore across Navajo territory, despite community concerns. The media has been casting a negative light on Bobby, but we who know him know that he is a gentle, generous person who loves his land and his community.
We learned about Bobby thanks to his friends who saw our posts last week about Ways of Knowing’s upcoming premiere at SXSW, and as a team we are thinking about how to best show up for him and the continuing efforts to protect Indigenous communities from the harms of uranium mining and the nuclear industrial complex.
In the meantime, we are asking our network to stay tuned to @dinecare88@haul_no & @keinfoshop for more info about this issue that has deep effects on all of us.
If you would like to support Bobby, please consider donating to his commissary:
