For International Women’s Day, I’d like to highlight this Black woman-owned boutique bakery in DC: @thesweetlobby . Sister bakery to @DCSouk (which I posted about in December), this spot is owned by Dr. Winnette, a Johns Hopkins University & MIT graduate. An engineer turned entrepreneur, she studied abroad in France, where she fell in love with the art of pastries and baking. She’s also a two-time @foodnetwork Champion, including a winning run on Cupcake Wars! I got to taste quite a bit of the menu and here’s what I enjoyed:
✨ Chocolate Vanilla Cupcake – a moist vanilla cupcake dipped in dark chocolate! All of the chocolate dipped cupcakes were soooo good. 
✨ Strawberry Champagne Cupcake – A light, fluffy strawberry cupcake 
✨ Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcake – Decadent chocolate topped with the most amazing salted caramel frosting I’ve ever had
✨ Passion Fruit Milk Chocolate Macaron – A delicate, crisp macaron with a tangy passion fruit outside and smooth milk chocolate inside 
✨ Cappuccino Macaron – crisp, chewy, and coffee flavored with a lovely cappuccino filling (the macarons ship NATIONALLY)
✨ Kahlúa Fudge Cocktail Cupcake – their cocktail cupcakes are fun! This one was made with a decadent Kahlúa fudge. 
✨ Macaron-Topped Fresh Strawberry Cupcake – their “Mac top” cupcakes are award winning. This one looked and tasted like luxury. And you get to try 2 of the bakeries treats in one dessert. This was my first time trying The Sweet Lobby’s desserts and I enjoyed them. The concept feels luxe and tasteful and the range of flavors, and the quality are interesting and complex. What an honor to have been invited by the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Trade and Industry @tradeministrytt to deliver the International Women's Day keynote address to an amazing group of female entrepreneurs! This was almost exactly one year ago and what a privilege it was to meet the women of the Trinidad and Tobago She Trades Hub! The day's theme was: "Count Her In: Invest In Women.
