Kathy was really an inspirational figure to so many. I loved working with her, and feel so grateful that she trusted Alyson and I to honor and expand on the rich artistic legacy that she built. We will all miss her dearly, we will all carry her spirit of curiosity, hard work, and adventurousness into the way we live our lives.
Thank you, Kathy.

T-shirt reveal número tres 🤌🎉
This unique design was created by six year old Isaac Silverman, while he was experimenting with painting on photos of the dancers with his dad. You might have snagged a postcard version of this painting at our show last June, and maybe you need this version as well, featured on a light blue tie-dyed shirt.
Grab your favorite new KDHDC shirt, or collect all three, this Saturday while partying for the arts at @lovemeonce ’s gorgeous North Austin home.
See ya there!

T-shirt reveal número dos ✌️🎉
This design, featured on a fabulous brick red shirt, was also created by our very own @drumanremains . It’s inspired by contour line drawing and reminds us of using a similar technique to draw spatial pathways for choreography.
dance + design = yum yum t-shirt time
Grab yours this Saturday at the parté. Ticket link and details in bio.

New KDHDC t-shirt reveal, número uno ☝️🎉
AVAILABLE THIS SATURDAY AT OUR PARTY! Tickets in bio or at kdhdance.com ✨
Designed by our resident composer, executive director, and visual design extraordinaire Drew Silverman @drumanremains , this sweet puppy is called “Merge” and reminds Drew of the Picasso prints he grew up with. For artistic director Alyson Dolan, it makes her think of the merging of musician and dancer that is often seen in her collaborations with Silverman.
Two more t-shirt reveals coming up. Stay tuned for the original art goodness, in honor of live music and dance in austin.
See y’all Saturday!

What a ride! 🤠
Feeling grateful, still, for everyone that came out and supported our new work back in June, as well as all of our season events. And thank you again to one of our longest standing supporters, Dave Robinson, who did not mince words in his review of INTERIORS when talking about the current social and financial realities for many artists and arts organizations in this country and in the city of Austin.
And although that is still true, we are elated to announce that our funding from the @txcommarts has doubled this season in direct response to our work and the hundreds of artists we support throughout our season. Thank you to the TCA for recognizing our need and all that we have created in Austin for the past 27 years. Thank you (especially) to the Texas Legislature who made this happen by recently increasing state funding for Texas artists 🙏🎉.
Now, from Dave, an arts critic and writer, avid KDH Dance Company supporter and former board member and weekly student:
“The shining INTERIORS glows doubly in the social and financial darkness that seem to be heightening around us. All in Austin must observe that producing art in a time of want grows rich in irony: to make a presentable work that’s underfunded for required resources strains creativity but it also challenges it. The scarcity of material support drives the artist and company to solutions other than those envisioned and, possibly, to unexpected inspirations. This is not a call to the City of Austin to cut KDH Dance funding further to stimulate better efforts; instead, it is a summons to artists to greater accomplishments in utter defiance of the City’s penurious, somewhat philistinish attitude toward its own arts children. The silver lining, as always, reverts to ticket buyers and funders, who, as consciousness rises, may find such art as INTERIORS worthy to be a larger part of their lives now and in the future.”
Preach, Dave 🙌

One more review for all of you who didn’t get a chance to experience INTERIORS, and those of you who would like to relive it!
David Glen Robinson is a fantastic writer, and an archaeologist by trade, so he is clearly at home digging deep and extracting meaning. Check out what he had to say about INTERIORS, link in our bio.
An excerpt:
“The heartfelt solos, all of them, gave us revelations of the self—the dancers’ interiors—beginning with the dancer’s characteristic movement, ending with new, equally heartfelt gestures as the section went on. The interior solos were the great sharing of the entire show, all performed with vulnerability and grace. Kudos to the ensemble.”
Thank you Dave, your words are vivid and exciting to read!

The dust has settled on our incredible INTERIORS run, and we would be remiss not to mention our two other reviews for INTERIORS. The first, the KDH you know...
Kathy Dunn Hamrick herself, with a wealth of insider information and a keen eye for micromovements (of course) wrote a fantastic review of the piece, you can find it linked in our bio, or on the home page of kdhdance.com.
An excerpt:
“The resulting breadth of movement innovation in Interiors is astonishing. The bodies are like living mosaics with their many pieces darting, slinging, hovering, spinning, suspending, spiraling and flying.”
So much more thoughtful and heartfelt dissection is contained within, thank you @kathydunnhamrick <3 #moderndance #modernmusic #kdhdancecompany #austindance #austintx #groundfloortheatre #kdhdance #interiors

We are so stoked to announce our next show: Aug 8th in Cedar Park at one of the best venues in Texas, @hautespot.live with our old friends @alpharev !!! Rose Fest raises money for research that helps children with rare genetic diseases, so it’s for a great cause, as well! Really hope to see you there.
Thank you to The Austin Chronicle’s Cat McCarrey for this fantastic review of INTERIORS ✨
You can find a link to the full review in our bio.
“KDH founder Kathy Dunn Hamrick recently passed the baton to a new crew, and here artistic director Alyson Dolan and executive director Drew Silverman make a lasting impression.“
“Interiors is performed with childlike exuberance of motion. If you’ve ever felt the freedom of running without purpose, of dancing not to be seen but to feel, the choreography will resonate.”
“Dolan’s choreography… a cosmic quilt presenting action as art.”
“Drew Silverman’s compositions are an essential character in the company. He mixes a heady audio potion, deploying phased-out tones enhanced by live instrumentation from Henna Chou, Leila Louise Henley, and Andy Nolte. It swings from tone poems to pure jazz, classical cello beats to folksy guitar runs reminiscent of a Gustavo Santaolalla score. Even the silences hold sacred space.”
“They formed a prayer – a benediction to the colossal creativity not only on display, but within us all.”
