Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our fierce founder and dearest friend, Kathy Dunn Hamrick. Kathy has had an enormous impact, with ripples throughout Austin and beyond as she is loved by so many. In her final weeks she was receiving 30-40 texts a day and numerous visits from friends, family, students, colleagues, collaborators and neighbors whom she had made a lasting impression on.
We are heartbroken but committed to honoring Kathy and her legacy for years to come.
***Per Kathy and Dave’s request, in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Kathy’s memory to KDH Dance Company.***
Lastly, for now, in typical Kathy form, she wrote a beautiful, deep and complete letter entitled “My Eulogy.” It will be read aloud at her Remembrance, but we also shared it in our latest newsletter. Building a new work while grieving the very friend and mentor who gave us the opportunity to create this work is a wild experience. However, working within such a generous support system (that has provided a home to Austin dancers and artists for over 27 years) is a true honor.
KDH Dance really, truly rocks, because Kathy Dunn Hamrick really, truly rocked. (Thinking of you a lot lately, Kathy.)

This beautiful cast of five has been in the studio with artistic director Alyson Dolan since early January slowly working our way towards what we need in this moment and what we want to share. Composer Drew Silverman and a band of musicians have also been in process, and we’ll be marrying the sound and movement soon to see what’s upon us.
