Edward Quist (Embryoroom) at Altar, Melbourne. 20.02.26 “Quist is clearly fluent in club idiom but has little interest in its conventions. ABDUCTOR is cinematic techno in the most literal sense, creating music that thinks in scenes and acts rather than in drops and builds, operating according to dramatic logic rather than dance-floor submission.” Live review at the link below: /live/embryoroom-live-at-altars-melbourne-20-february-2026/ @embryoroom @stockgrazing @altarspace.info @torimimasataka_nuoac @ab.ss.s @dredge___ #Embryoroom #EdwardQuist #ExperimentalMusic #StockGrazing #AltarVenue

Dredge x Altar are excited to present a special live generative A/V performance and Naarm debut from TORIMIMASATAKA (JP) on February 20th. He has just finished a new release “Umbral” mastered by @enamusic_ for @nuoac_ that will be sold in cassette form on the night. Flashing light warning on next slides. @torimimasataka_nuoac is an experimental sound and audiovisual artist based in Osaka, Japan. His practice spans dub, industrial, abstract rhythm, and ambient noise, merging auditory and visual mediums into immersive environments. As the founder of the independent label nuoac (Osaka), he curates and releases works that challenge conventional genre boundaries. His productions are characterized by haunting textures, fractured percussion, and a deep sense of spatial composition. He studied under jazz pianist and arranger Masako Hamamura, gaining a strong foundation in improvisation, which continues to inform his creative approach.

Welcoming Emelyne on February 20th, guiding the opening and threading selections between live acts. @extr.emelyne is an active force within Naarm’s vibrant music scene, known for her expansive and exploratory approach behind the decks. Her one of a kind energy and enthusiasm around music brings people together, weaving forgotten gems with little heard global sounds into deeply considered selections. Revered for her breadth and versatility, she moves fluidly through UK-inspired sounds, broken beat, forward-thinking rhythmic productions and booming dub, with a deep love for bass heavy and experimental styles. She also explores these sounds through her weekly PBS FM show The Blend (co-hosted with Bevin @blendcorp ), which spans hip hop, bass, dubstep, garage, jungle, downtempo and experimental electronica. Introducing a unique audio-visual collaboration from two mainstays of the community on February 20. A collaborative A/V project between cellist Abby Sundborn and new-media artist Niph. Slide two showcases their recent exploration of “prediction error”. Through workshops and performances, the duo practised forcing drastic shifts every five minutes, deliberately working against intuition. Over time, discomfort became familiar, opening new ways of listening, playing, and composing. For Dredge x Altar they will be building upon their existing collaboration whilst tailoring for the space at Altar.

On February 20th, Luxe Florart brings a spatial, material-based installation to Altar Space, with a focus on weathered elemental resources. @luxe.florart creates ephemeral sculptures constructed of visual metaphors through the experimentation of flowers, their work is made with the intent to provoke thought as they explore the connection between nature and the collective energy. Introducing a rare and intimate performance from Knotting on February 20. Knotting is the collaborative project of electronic artist Matt Sabbadini (Third Space) and experimental vocalist Georgia Gamper (Things Unsaid). Born of an urge to explore the contrasts and similarities of both artists’ music, the duo create works of manipulated voice complemented by electro-acoustics and synthesis. Intimate whisperings stay tight-knit with modular embrace; a timbral dream emerging. Ticket link in bio.

On February 20, Dredge x Altar present a very special audio and visual performance from @embryoroom (USA). Flashing lights warning on slide 2 and 5. Embryoroom is the long‑running multimedia practice of New York based artist Edward Quist, working across sound, film and performance since the early 1990s. His work creates dense sensory environments shaped by power, fear and systems of control, where sound and image operate as a single, immersive form. ABDUCTOR is Embryoroom’s latest project, developed with Australian label @stockgrazing . Spanning album, film and live performance, it unfolds as slow‑burning, cinematic techno that is immersive and non‑functional. The live show is a world‑first hybrid A/V performance, combining early scenes from the forthcoming feature length film with live sound, adapting to the space and acoustics of the venue at Altar Space.
