Last night at B.AIT West, arts and technology experimental sound event curated by with @_white____noise_ @ealingextranormal @michael_speechley @yourxyzworld @speech.muse @muse_at_269 @creativemilebrentford Special thank you to Ronnie @_white____noise_ —— For this edition of White Noise, we present Article X, a movement to audio-reactive piece embedded within the ongoing performative iterations of our research project Frost Killed The Lemon Tree, set on the plains of Mount Etna in Sicily. This performance constructs the legal framework for initiating a potential claim and petition to amend the Italian Constitution, advocating for the recognition of Trees as rights-bearing entities. Drawing inspiration from the legal precedent set by Colombia’s Atrato River, which was the first geomorphological body to be granted status as a legal entity with enforceable environmental rights. Article X interrogates the intersection of anthropocentric legal regimes, ecology, and bio-cultural sovereignty. Notes on the evening: most people were very responsive to the idea, we got some interesting feedbacks and thoughts on legal precedents… we even got a lawyer to sign ! The proposal is at the start but we are looking to collaborate and discuss with activists and lawyers so hit us up if you’re interested or know anyone who would be!

Frost killed the lemon tree, 2nd representation, @sottofondostudio Arezzo 09.09.2023 FROST KILLED THE LEMON TREE presented in London in 2022 reshapes itself on the space and audience of Sottofondo. The performance tells a story of disaster that echoes increasingly frequent news events. In 2021, two hundred lemon trees died of mysterious causes in Sicily's Etna plain. The culprit has never been found, but finding him is not the goal of this story. In this place of mourning we encounter dynamics that move from human to molecular, atomic, atmospheric and meteorological scales. Climate change, drought and then frost, chemical components and lethal bacteria overlap, emerge and disappear. While the issues and consequences associated with the Anthropocene are now central to contemporary discussion, the two artists carve out a space among them for healing through the magnification and extension of a simple gesture. FROST KILLED THE LEMON TREE invites you to listen, look and taste. Video credits Riccardo Leprai @touchdesigner #touchdesigner

Our first live performance! FROST KILLED THE LEMON TREE is a story of simultaneous decomposition and composition. In May 2021 we were staying at Donna Carmela’s orange orchard under the Etna Volcano near Paternò, Sicily. One morning we witnessed the death of her 200 recently planted lemon trees. When it comes to cold weather, lemon trees are extremely delicate. A recent frost had passed through the region, an anomaly for this time of the year. Donna Carmela and her agronomist were disputing the cause of the death. Climate instability, monocultural practice, land mismanagement, who is it to blame for this untimely death? The music is a random, self composing piece, triggered only by the lemon peel’s presence on the surface of a cloth. By decomposing the lemon we are also allowing the lemon to compose its own music, to tell its own story, its own version of its life and death. Thank you to Ronnie from @_white____noise_ for hosting us, and to all our friends who came! ❤️🍋 #live #performance #food #sound #lemon #composition #sicily #touchdesigner
