I never intended to pair the Progress frame with the Sentry box but maybe the two identity based narratives belong together in the future.

Progress V
It’s been 9 years since I last shared the installation piece Progress in the Dissenters’ Chapel in Kensal Green Cemetery and 13 years for the first version. From beginning to end the primary materials remain consistent, water, sound and light. Version 1 explored the idea of change through wanton destruction, version 2 recycling, version 3 opposites, versions 4 and 5 loss and regeneration. The narrative changed over the years and with version 4 it finally settled. Version 5 revisits the same story at a moment when I have time to reflect and develop the piece.
The work is for Dorothy and anyone who’s experienced loss through gradual changes and damage in the brain caused by a vascular dementia condition.
Moving Image
Because I can’t help it and as a contrast to the sculpture work I will be sharing some of my custom VJ loops just for fun. They really belongs on the dance floor and should be enjoyed in the right context and moment, so you will have to get into the right frame of mind and pull a few shapes while you watch :)

A sample of the unprocessed Rorschach video output with the sound running through a basic patch. Manual control (red) over the clear screen, overwrite colour (B or W) and form + (green) random switching of horizontal / vertical width and height. PAL output in vertical format running through VDMX via a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card + external thunderbolt PCI expansion enclosure.

Starting to investigate the @lumatic_visual_devices Rorschach hybrid analog / digital video synthesizer with a no-input patch and manual power starvation. Not the most obvious choice to test a video synth I guess but if it can stand sticking its head up its own arse (so to say) we should be good to go :) BTW apparently this was the very first DIY build in the world and I have to say it went very smoothly and a privilege to contribute (however small). When you build yours just take your time.

This is the AV Lab and Gallery at XYZ Brentford, West London. We have a focus on AV (moving-image, sound art, film, photography, etc.) but not exclusively because… AV (analog and digital) and Immersive work includes multiple practices and materials.
Both spaces are available for hire for solo and group shows and yes we have an audience in West London.
The gallery space will develop over the next few months to better support the hanging of 2D work and the AV Lab continues to support artists developing work ready for gallery or performance.

Apologies if I've missed any of the artists Insta... also not everyone frequents this place ;-)
Side note - as a lecturer in Moving Image for Performance I was really happy to see lots of visual techniques in play. From apps like TagTool, TouchDesigner, Resolume, VLC and VDMX6 to live video, OHP, Super 8, streamed content and pre-recorded pieces. No intentional shadow work this time but plenty of shapes created by the artists and audience.
