Weeks posts
Hey there folks... Let's just be real for a minute. It's been a battle for me to create lately β€” like for over a year now. I've been in a strange funk that has kept me from sharing and creating new and old content. I've watched as a "current" post or story sat in draft mode for days... Then weeks... Then months... Like, I have stories 90% complete! ...just sitting there unfinished. Shameful. And this isn't something new. I have over a DECADE of these. The backlog of adventures is great but it's been burning a hole and stopping me from writing about new stuff. So in an attempt to address this creative block, I'm putting out a newsletter called Project Adventure Recall Β· new stories of old adventures. A link is already in my bio and the first story is hitting inboxes next Sunday.. I hope you enjoy it and it sparks whatever creative or adventurous bug in you to go out and do your thing. Be well βœŒπŸ»πŸ‘ŠπŸ» Photo: me looking ridiculous with a mouth full of a Kate's Bar on the slope of Bell Mountain, Idaho February 2015 #DestinationReroute #ProjectAdventureRecall #LiveInspired

From the dense coniferous woodlands of Island Park to the vast open sea of sagebrush that cover the Sand Creek Desert floor, just beyond the Henry's Fork Caldera, quiet backcountry roads travel through the ever-changing terrain. It's a region that lies largely unprotected, yet unexpectedly serene. I'm no geologist, but the idea of this once being on fire, flowing with lava, and now seeing it in its pure beauty and lush existence creates in me a cavern of love for this place. One can expect to encounter livestock, mostly bovine... Man's replacement of the bison that once roamed this region with a grand presence. One can also expect every animal you might see in Yellowstone National Park, while also being a home for many high desert-dwelling beings. And although potentially less frequent, this region is a critical winter and breeding grounds, and migration corridor for an overwhelming number of creatures. The abrupt meshing and blending of these ecosystems is one of the things that makes this land so unique. The bike is such a delightful way to experience this landscape, allowing one to cover ground quickly (but not too quickly) through the changes of terrain, and yet be quiet enough to hear the drumming of a Northern Flicker or the rattling bugle of a Sandhill Crane. So with that said, I have begun mapping out some routes in the area and have added them to @ridewithgps collections. You might remember hearing about the Pine & Sage Escapade which I shared about last year. This region is part of that. Some of these routes are now embedded on the Routes page at destinationreroute.com (πŸ”— link in bio). You're welcome to email me directly if you're looking for more curated route suggestions or have questions about one of the routes on the page. This Bishop Mountain Loop is a new one that is still in development, but mostly ready. There is a 45-mile variation available as well. The page is a work in progress, but this is a start with much better organization to come. Cheers & happy riding ✌🏻 πŸ“ Ancestral homelands of the Eastern Shoshone, Shoshone-Bannock, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, and many other Indigenous Peoples #DestinationReroute #EasternIdaho #IslandPark

Roads are drying out in the valley! Still some snow and mud in the canyons and at higher elevations (Rammel Mountain, Jackpine-Pinochle Rim, Horseshoe-Packsaddle Canyon) along the route, but almost everything is in! Mid-week adventure rides πŸ”₯β„οΈπŸ‘€ ⏰ Every Tuesday, rolling @ 7 pm for some backyard shenanigans. We keep it fun, chill and mix it up – There's something for everyone! Last night we rolled from Sherman Park in Victor out Old Jackson Highway and up the Centennial Trail to Trail Creek Campground. From the paved path, Happy Hour looked questionable, but we were pleasantly surprised to find tacky conditions and no mud or slime! πŸ€™πŸ»πŸ€˜πŸ» Even through the snow, it wasn't too bad – maybe a little walking to keep it interesting. If you'd like to stay informed or make a suggestion about community rides and events, comment πŸ‘‡πŸ» or send a DM πŸ’Œ and I'll send you an invite to the WhatsApp group. Everyone is welcome! 🌈✨ See ya next Tuesday! ✌🏻🚲 πŸ“Έ @aaronrcouch πŸ“ Ancestral homelands of the Eastern Shoshone, Bannock Cheyenne and many other Indigenous Peoples #Wydaho #TetonValley #Tetons #HumanPoweredAdventures

Yesterday's @ridewithgps Spring Shakeout was wonderful! It was great to ride with you all and be a part of rich conversations and good vibes while rolling under the warm sunshine! My soul is full, my face is smiling, my legs are tired, and my skin is a little burnt. The "bike bus" style ride was a bit of an experiment and I definitely learned a few things for next time. Everyone seemed to enjoy the format, pace and conversations with one another, which is all I could have hoped for! Folks started in Victor, Driggs, Tetonia and Felt. Some peeled off at various points to shorten or modify their ride as needed. Our destination was the Bitch Creek Trestle on the Ashton-Tetonia Rail Trail. A few notes of gratitude and acknowledgements: - thank you, Zac (@sterlingisis ) for helping organize and lead us out from Driggs! - thank you to my wife and best friend, Taylor (@_taylala ) for helping organize and lead us out from Tetonia! - thank you @hopscyclery for the morning pastries, starting location and providing some immediate pre-ride mechanic help to some – this is why bike shops in our community matter! - thank you @ridewithgps for organizing these nationwide rides over the past couple of weeks! Yay community! And thanks everyone for coming out and riding YOUR ride, and gracing us with your presence, good vibes and great conversations! It was wonderful. Let's do this again soon! Maybe with some coffee... Or a night out under the stars, perhaps? Stay tuned! #TetonValley #SpringShakeout #Wydaho

Cage-Free Yellowstone in the Spring Yellowstone is a special place β€” a place that has always healed me. To be healed by place is quite the feeling and I don't have the words to describe it β€” perhaps you do and would like to share – I invite you to do so in the comments. Right now the road is open to public foot and bike use, with minimal vehicle traffic on the roads (only Park staff and personnel) from West Yellowstone to Mammoth Hot Springs. We rode a total of 38 miles to Gibbon Falls and back last weekend, starting mid-afternoon and finishing last Sunday evening. To experience this wild landscape at a slower pace by bike is one tradition I hate to miss – it's also an incredible way to move through Yellowstone. I highly recommend it, even if it's not exclusively without vehicle traffic. 🎢 -> @zachbrightlights #Yellowstone #Cagefree #Pedalstone

Got the commuter rolling again πŸ™πŸ» just in time for some nice dry gravel and quiet paved back roads. The wind died down quite a bit today compared to what it's been... It was nice to NOT have 50 mph gusts today. Rode north and then west of town out to and along the river and looped into Driggs. A nice 34 mile, low-key mixed surface ride from home. πŸ‘ŒπŸ» πŸ“ Native Homelands of the Eastern Shoshone, Cheyenne, Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla peoples 🎢 @zachbrightlights #Wydaho #InspireAdventure #TetonValleyGravel
