My invitation came in a message. Come to @ilyashshabazz book signing #BettyBeforeX and talk with @sunny as a monitor. In my mind, I was already constructing logistics for my grand-daughter and grand-nicece to attend. Although both just 5 and skin- high on my knees they were aptly prepared. I can identify with books and my tutelage about #ilyashashabazz and mother #bettyshabazz was no cross-stitched one-offs but true legacy conversations. With the Grammys tonight and Black History Month coming later this was a perfect place to bring them and intertwine lessons. As the two Queens spoke #SunnyHostin and #ilyashaShabazz about loving yourself, respecting your mothers and Grandmother the little ones listened intending, as if the African Blood of Sisterhood resurged within them. At the same time, the Queens language fascinated me their relationship between language and power was proof I needed to be here just as much as the babies. As for the Grammy connection. It will be "WOKE" tonight giving many artists their just due. Recently the word woke is associated with the #blacklivesmatter movement and this political term was first coined in 1962 by William M. Kelly in a NYT article " If You're Woke You Dig It" then in 2014 placed in prominence by the Oxford English Dictionary to officially credit him as first for coining the term. As I continue an acerbic and artful allegiance with my sisters, my resistance, and commitment to promoting open experiences to my young ladies; ultimately, the adjective "timeless" is were I find my thoughts ending. Isn't a Grandmother timeless: she's like the writer helping the young embrace their narrative? Isn't a Grandmother timeless: she's like the musician helping the young track the notes of their time? The WEEN organization inducted 15 more ladies last night. As a witness, for the sixth time, it's an historic event. It's reminiscent of the "Club Movement" of the 1900s or the "Women's Movement" of the 70's. This, in essence, is a social movement for entertainment development, that has permanently changed the landscape for young ladies. This @valeisha said in her address by recounting the historical legacy of WEEN. The experiences fortify sisterhood @laurenllake proclaimed by pushing transparency in conversation and discovery, in the young ladies lives; giving testimony to conflicts they will face. While @iamsabrinat uses the art of video to collect and weave documentation of flesh, bone, and spirit to remind the ladies of their transformation and their movement socially.I study history but @jazmynology participates in that history. She uplifts consciousness. No, they are not prudes but dedicated feminists. The point @tamikadmallory the keynote speaker said, "Your story will get you in the room." She tells us we are the best experts of our experiences. Here at WEEN you can analyze, find insight, and use it to take action.
