I'm DeepPond Kim (@deeppondkim ), a 2024 AIM Fellow at @bronxmuseum . Currently, I'm working on abstracted figurative ceramic sculptures that draw from traditional Korean jar-making techniques. These hand-crafted, distorted human forms explore discomfort and acceptance, encouraging reflection on relationships and identity.
Being part of the AIM program has been a transformative journey. I've found myself surrounded by an amazing, supportive group of Artist Fellows, and working with @bronxmuseum staff members @patrickdrowe , Nell, Alex, and @eileenj8 has been a gift 🎁
Before joining AIM, I felt uncertain about navigating the gallery world and presenting myself as a professional artist. Thanks to AIM Faculty Member @laurenwittels ’ invaluable guidance, I’ve gained the confidence to step forward with clarity and a stronger sense of direction, and I am ready to engage with the commercial art scene.
AIM studio visits with @lberfond from @queensmuseum and @rachelvera_s from @smackmellon have also been incredible—opening new doors of inspiration and artistic growth 🎨
This experience has been a source of immense gratitude. It feels as if I’m donning new creative armor, ready to step into the next chapter with my fellow cohorts, strengthened by the powerful sense of community we’ve built together ⚔️🛡
The application deadline for the 2025 AIM Fellowship has been extended to this Sunday, November 3, at 11:59PM! Link is in @bronxmuseum 's bio 🔗

Many of you may already know that I am still in Korea. Being physically apart, I sometimes feel disconnected from my communities, friends, colleagues, and loved ones ❤️🩹
But I am constantly reminded that connection does not disappear with distance. So many people have reached out, and through that I realized that being close is not the only way to stay connected. There are many forms of connection🪢
While I will not be physically present at the @bronxmuseum , my work will be there and through it, I am still connected. Along with the incredible works of my fellow cohorts.

This exhibition explores the Korean concept of Han—a deeply emotional thread that weaves together sorrow, longing, endurance, and hope. Through diverse materials and techniques—including clay, paper, wood, hair, and both digital and traditional practices—these artists give shape to transformative experiences, crafting works that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Looking at my self-portraits over the years, I’ve come to see how much my perception of myself has changed. Growing up, I believed I wasn’t good-looking, a view shaped by classmates who called me ugly in primary school.
During a recent visit home, while sorting through old belongings, I came across my school graduation albums. To my surprise, I realized I wasn’t as unattractive as I had believed.
Maybe my perspective has shifted, and my self-esteem has grown. Thanks in large part to my partner, who always reminds me to see myself more positively
As I step into 2025, I will treat myself with more kindness🫂

This summer, I got to teach a mask-making workshop at @clayhousebk 🎭
It was such a joy sharing my skills and seeing all the creativity from these amazing, enthusiastic participants! 🙌💡

Clay Lock 🔒 + Chain 🔗
It’s functional… just not in a way we could actually use it. That’s what makes it art, isn’t it?
🔩 The simple mechanism is oddly satisfying.
🔗 I shaped the padlock using a small bowl mold 🥣 and built the shackle and chains with an extruder ⛓️
This was a fun challenge, and even more rewarding to share with my hand-building students ✋️🤚
Teaching always pushes me to step outside my comfort zone and create pieces I wouldn’t normally try—constantly learning alongside the amazing studio community @clayhousebk ✨️
⛓️💥 Have any wild clay ideas? 💡 Share them in the comments, and your challenge is accepted! 🤝🤣

🌟 Excited to be part of the "VIRGO HARDWARE" exhibition at @starship_gallery this Saturday! 🌟 I'll be showing a small mask alongside some amazing Virgo artists.
📅 Opening August 31st | 4 - 8 PM
Starship Gallery | 70 Jefferson Street, Brooklyn
Curated by Zak Vreeland( @zak_vreeland_art ), this show features 25 Virgo artists, exploring the meticulous and intellectual traits often associated with the Virgo sign.
Open Sundays from 1-6 PM until September 22nd.
Come by and see the works of some incredibly creative minds in this wonderful community!
Virgo Hardware is an exhibition of 25 Virgo artists, people born between August 23 and September 22. The Virgo sign is associated with detail, neatness, intellect, perfectionism, being judgemental, affinity for spatial awareness, and practical problem-solving behavior. This can be found in some notable Virgo artists, like Sol Lewitt and Fred Sandback, and seems lacking in others, like G.G. Allin. Regardless of whether astrology is real or Virgos are intellectual and so on, it's interesting to look at work and wonder 'is this intellectual' or to look at two pieces and wonder if they have a relationship or seem to be made by the same 'type' of person.
Open Sundays 1-6pm, Sept 1st thru Sept 22nd Opening Party SATURDAY AUGUST 31 6pm onward…🎂
