A special and memorable evening with two remarkably talented culinarians @camari_mick and her business partner, Brittney Williams.
They are launching their own venture, L’Atelier Ébène, a modern brasserie that weaves together French culinary traditions with flavors and influences from across the African diaspora. This was a celebration of culinary creativity and excellence! Keep an eye out for these talented chefs!
Finally made it to @goldendinerny ! Absolutely a must-visit spot! The only the thing better than the food (amazing pancakes!!) was the hospitality. Thank you Nora and team!
Today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, legacy, and unparalleled contributions to America and the world. King was unrelenting, with both his actions and his words, towards civil rights and, in essence, a more civil nation.
As I reflect on his writings and many speeches, I am drawn to three brilliant quotes that I feel are still relevant to this very day.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
“We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear.”
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
As we navigate through life’s journey, with all its challenges and obstacles, let’s remember to make the courageous choice - let’s choose love.
Today we commemorate Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, enslaved peoples of African descent in Texas finally gained their freedom. Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the resilience, strength, and determination of those who fought against oppression. It embodies the spirit of progress and the pursuit of justice.
"We need more light about each other. Light creates understanding, understanding creates love, love creates patience, and patience creates unity." - Malcolm X
Holy smokes!! What an absolute honor to meet and spend time with Aaron, Stacy and Michael at @franklinbbq ! The only thing better than the food was the incredible warmth and hospitality of their team (and the food was pretty damn delicious)!
This Memorial Day weekend, we were supposed to honor those Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice. Instead, we mourned the lives not just of our soldiers, but of our children. We felt pain and frustration and rage for lives gunned down not only on the battlefield, but in our schools. Again. Again and again and again.

Great time yesterday at @gramercytavern ’s Memorial Day staff picnic!
I loved catching up with Carolyn and Michael. These two amazing individuals have over 60 years of combined service at USHG. Our people make the difference!
As a teenager Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.” There is something so powerful about the awakening that comes from getting educated.
I didn’t have that awakening growing up. My generation wasn’t taught Black history in school. What little we did “learn” was often negative.
It wouldn’t come until my late 30s, when I first came across that quote. I asked myself why, after all these years, didn’t I know more about my history? Dr. King reminded me that the answer was right in front of me: I had the power to be curious. I had the power to look and to learn.
From then on I read voraciously, educating myself on Black history in America for the first time. I learned the reality that my teachers refused to tell me: that Black history is American history.
And I learned what Dr. King meant to me: The promise of a greater society. The importance of being persistent in the face of obstacles. The enduring power of hope. And that awakening is in our own hands.

A sad day, we lost an amazing leader today.
A great American, whose influence was far reaching and ever lasting.
A humble man who always put country ahead of politics.
Colin Powell possessed the rare attributes of high IQ with high emotional intelligence.
Colin’s character, writings, and determined demeanor had a huge impact on me!
Rest In Peace
