Last week’s crawfish fest took me back to the time I got to reminisce about discovering crayfish and peppa shrimp as a child on my first trip to Jamaica with my family for Food & Wine. For the story, I also got to tap my mom and aunts for their recipes for making peppa shrimp at home. It was a special experience to see them credited in print.
Scenes from Tatale, the new residency by @akwasibrenyamensa , who I’ve been following for years. It was such a wonderful time, chatting with neighbors at the table, tasting all the amazing food, and of course, popping in the kitchen from time to time for some photos. Many thanks for the invitation. It was a blast!
Between this weekend’s Crawfish Boil, a lovely dinner at Strange Delight, and multiple friends traveling, I’ve had my mind on New Orleans lately and realized I never posted about my adventure there with @chefdomlee and friends back in February shooting lifestyle photos for his forthcoming book.
This weekend, the folks at @krewe invited me out to celebrate their annual Krewe Krawfish Boil at their shop in the Meatpacking District. The weather could have been better, but the vibes were perfect. I also left with a new pair of glasses. Win!
Through the years, my friends at @roadsandkingdoms have taken me on adventures from Italy to Africa to Peru, this week, I got to return the favor and guide them through The Better Borough. I talked to @charly_wilder about what I love about Brooklyn and got to give a shout out to some of my favorite people and places.

Last summer at Family Reunion, Devan Cunningham (@ll_chefd ) rolled up to the assorted crew of chefs vibing on the last night with a batch of chicken wings like none of us had ever had before. While planning out the food for our recent #BlackFoodFolks x Kann event in Portland, Bryan Furman (@bs_pitmaster ), who blessed us with his incredible BBQ, had the idea to invite Devan to join the party.
This time, I got to spend some time in the kitchen with him and see how the magic was made. Many thanks to Bryan, Devan, the Kann team, and everyone involved for making the whole event happen. It means so much to me that people are excited enough about what @BlackFoodFolks is about to travel and invest their time and effort into contributing. Shout out to @tiavanich and @gg30000 for jumping on the idea of hosting immediately.
