Sticks 2.0 and Type Tinker are here! First released in 2019, Sticks has been fully reworked and expanded into a family of 5 styles plus a variable font. It’s a monospaced typeface, connected to the visual world of construction, technology, and industrial machinery. Alongside its release, we’re launching Type Tinker (beta), a playground for exploring our growing type catalogue and any font you load into it. Hand gesture control included. 👋 Have fun exploring Sticks in our Type Tinker at nguyengobber.com/type-tinker #nguyengobber #sticks #typeface #typedesign #typetinker

Salon skug posters 2025 We’ve updated our website with all Salon skug posters from 2025, a series that’s become an ongoing playground for testing ideas and experimenting with new, unreleased typefaces. We’re happy the work has been recognised with two posters selected for @100besteplakate 2025 and four posters for @intl.international Poster Competition 2025, including two jury commendations and a feature in the International Poster Book. The 100BP selection will soon be exhibited in Berlin and tour across Europe and beyond. Thanks to the whole skug team for the events, the collaboration, and the ongoing trust. Salon skug is organised by @skugjournal , Austria’s subcultural voice since 1990. We’re already excited about the new posters this year! New essay published! Time Matters On the Temporal Dimension of Graphic Design In our latest essay, we examine graphic design through its temporal dimension. While graphic design artefacts are usually static, they unfold through use, requiring time to be fully experienced. In an accelerated present, design is often optimised for brief exposure, resulting in efficient yet uniform visuals. Drawing on philosophical reflections and concrete examples, the essay shows how purposely designing for sustained attention can lead to greater nuance, depth, and meaning. Explore the full essay on our website or get it as a PDF. nguyengobber.com/insights/time-matters Enjoy reading! #nguyengobber #designtheory #designwriting #graphicdesign #temporality

Archdiploma 2025 Happy to share a few impressions of the visual identity we designed for Archdiploma 2025, the biennial diploma exhibition of the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning at TU Wien @tu_wien . Based on the exhibition’s theme “Nachdenken Über den Bestand” (Reflecting on the Existing), the design builds on layered urban and aerial views of Vienna with photographic details of the Funkhaus Wien. While the image material embeds the venue directly into the visual language, the layering reflects “Bestand” as something historical and continuously evolving, referring to Siegfried Zielinski’s idea of “Geschichte als Schichtung” (History as Layering). A colour palette derived from Le Corbusier’s Polychromie Architecturale structures the thematic areas across exhibition, catalogue, and other media. Material choices follow the idea of working with “Bestand” by using leftover paper stocks. Many thanks to Prof. Heike Oevermann, Prof. Harald Stühlinger, Nina Lorein, the students, and everyone else involved in this project. @denkmalpflege_tuwien @kunst_geschichte_tuwien @ar.tuwien Typeface: Forma by David Jonathan Ross @djrrb Production: @gerindruckgmbh , @gugler_kommunikationshaus , Plandruck+, Buchbinderei Papyrus Find the full project on our website. #nguyengobber #architecture #spatialplanning #exhibition #graphicdesign

Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the new year! Towards the end of 2025, we produced a holiday greeting card using letterpress. The motif was embossed with matte white hot foil on thick, warm white cotton paper. The greeting is set in Funkhaus, an expressive typeface inspired by stylised radar displays, tape reels, and radio waves. The cryptic type design and the motif’s low contrast shift attention from quick reading to closer engagement with materiality and print quality. For everyone who’s curious, the card reads, “Wir wünschen erholsame Feiertage und einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr! 2026”, which translates to “We wish you relaxing holidays and a good start to the new year! 2026”. Funkhaus typeface remains available as a pay-what-you-want offer on our website. Thanks to Druckerei Seyss for the beautiful print production, and to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting in 2025. #nguyengobber #greetings #letterpress #typedesign #graphicdesign

Farmacia Soft We’re thrilled to introduce Farmacia Soft, the cosy sibling of our original Farmacia! The typeface is a condensed sans-serif suited for headlines, posters, and wordmarks. While the distinctive characteristics of Farmacia stay present, rounded corners and several carefully implemented refinements give it a noticeably gentler and warmer appearance. You can find Farmacia Soft, along with its trial version and specimen, at nguyengobber.com/typefaces We’re already excited to see Farmacia Soft in use! #nguyengobber #typeface #typedesign #graphicdesign #headlines #poster #font #trialfonts

Funkhaus Typeface Funkhaus was developed at the former Vienna Broadcasting House (Funkhaus Wien), once home to Austria’s national radio broadcaster, and now home to our studio. The design is inspired by stylised radar displays, tape reels, and radio waves, connecting the expressive typeface to broadcasting. You can get Funkhaus for free or leave a contribution of your choice at nguyengobber.com/typefaces Have fun with Funkhaus! :) #nguyengobber #funkhaus #wien #typeface #typedesign #graphicdesign

$1.5 Million, 100X $25K, and $25,000! $50,000! A series of artworks by Russell Perkins (@angelshampoo ), featuring typography by Nguyen Gobber. The piece takes the form of multiple, almost human-sized lottery scratch cards in various states of being scratched. Their design incorporates a rich collection of visuals sourced from a vast archive of U.S. American lottery scratch cards. Just like regular scratch cards, these prints can also be scratched to reveal an underlayer of numbers and letters. The change in scale and the abstraction of the scratch cards’ visual language reconfigure the gambler’s act of scratching into an almost painterly gesture. – CAPC Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux (@capcmusee ) Slides 5–7: Photos by Arthur Péquin (@arthurpequin ) Public Gallery, London (@public.gallery ) Slides 8–10: Photos courtesy of Public Gallery Printed by K2 Screen, London (@k2screen ) – #nguyengobber #russellperkins #artwork #lottery #scratchcards #print #typography #graphicdesign #3d

FEED THE CITY This new book from the FHNW Institute of Architecture in Basel examines how urban landscapes, infrastructure, and building types can adapt to support a transformed food system. An introduction by Carolyn Steel shows the historical and potential future impact of food on city structures, followed by different essays offering insightful perspectives on the topic and a selection of project examples across food production, distribution, consumption, and recycling. The book’s typography mirrors its structure, with broader thematic texts set in larger type at the beginning and more focused practical examples set in smaller type towards the end. Photo sequences break up and structure the publication, while a colour palette inspired by regional farm produce keeps the book design engaging. We had the pleasure of designing this book with @studioboscoferreira . LUCIFER SPECIMEN POSTER This foldable poster was designed for last year’s Swiss Design Awards exhibition in Basel. The prints flew off the table in no time, and not everyone got their hands on one. So, we’re thrilled to share it again digitally! #nguyengobber #typeface #typedesign #font #typography #swissdesign #swissdesignawards #graphicdesign
