Trespasses III by Daniel Grimston, Directed by Amara Heyland #ArtFlicks is an #ACESupported project from us and @pentabustheatrecompany that supports emerging artists to create and distribute original content. 📲 About making this short-film, Daniel said: “The third film is about time and nature. As a writer, I wanted to catch the voice of nature itself as a third, unspoken character, but through many edits of a script we both realised that the best thing to do would be to let it speak for itself. We are left with a sequence of the places where the love affair played out, with the echoes of the two lovers on our retinas. We don’t know how long it has been since they were there - they could have just left or it could have been years - but we know that they are gone. In this one, we saturated the colours slightly so that the experience would be more dreamlike, but also closer perhaps to the technicolour of the natural world. We wanted the richness of it to really fill whoever watches it.” Daniel Grimston (He/They) is a writer, actor and activist from rural Sussex whose work treads the boundary between us and the natural world. He was part of the John Burgess Writing Course in 2021/22 and the Royal Court Intro To Playwriting in Autumn 2022. His first play, Corpselight, won the Masterclass Pitch Your Play Competition in 2023 and he is currently under commission as Poet In Residence for the Right to Roam Campaign. Inspired by Derek Jarman’s ‘Journey To Avebury’ and ‘The Angelic Conversation’, we wanted to create a sense of being out of time. We move back and forth between Elizabeth’s discovery of the place and her time with George, creating a dance between different timelines. We wanted the images and the words to leave an imprint on the mind of the viewer, like the resonance of the love story itself, and to show how interwoven their love is with the sense of place.’ - Daniel Grimston Daniel Grimston (He/They) is a writer, actor and activist from rural Sussex whose work treads the boundary between us and the natural world. Trespasses I by Daniel Grimston, Directed by Amara Heyland #ArtFlicks is an #ACESupported project from us and @pentabustheatrecompany that supports emerging artists to create and distribute original content. 📲 Regarding the creation of Trespasses, Daniel said: “I am a big fan of Derek Jarman and, once I stumbled across a collection of his super-8s from the 1970s and realised that he had preempted TikTok by almost 50 years, I found my way into these films - using the phone like a super-8 camera. These films, in a way, are a homage to him. I was interested in the form of the triptych - three separate works offering different perspectives on the same topic, in this case a story of queer awakening in nature. My director, Amara Heyland, and I wanted to play with the dream-state that love beckons you into, as well as the idea of trespass in a rural place and what it really means to cross a boundary into nature and into each other. This first one is from the perspective of George, the daughter of a gamekeeper. It is the most naturalistic of the three, and it focusses in on her journey into the woods and the love she finds there, but also her familiarity with the landscape and her surprise at stumbling across a stranger.” Daniel Grimston (He/They) is a writer, actor and activist from rural Sussex whose work treads the boundary between us and the natural world. It’s been exactly a week and my feet have only just touched the ground. To be shortlisted with these writers, and the writers from the last 20 years, is an honour I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. Never really thought this would happen with my first play, but it’s really lit the way for me and for Corpselight. Thank you @royalcourttheatre for giving me a place on the intro group, and the deadline to write that first draft 2 years ago. Hope = 🕯️👻🐄🏳️‍🌈 I was a little bit overwhelmed (weeping continually) so I forgot to take any photos. Luckily @elliekurttzphoto had my back for the last two - thank you @frankielipmanactor and @felixx.felizz for playing my play, and to @oliver_hurst for directing the extract. Thank you to @bruntwoodprize and @rxtheatre for the wonderful, life-affirming day. Thank you especially to @rosiethackeray for holding everything with such care. Thank you to the other writers for being such lovely humans, and writing such exciting plays. I can’t wait to see them happen 🌱 T. Adamson @tashcollie @yasminedankwah @terri_donovan5 abbirosegreenland @maryelizabethhamilton @juliajarcho @daismiles @courttia @okaytolu @thejesucia @avawongdavies @seayoungwrites @silvasemerciyan Finally, thank you always and forever to @amara.heyland - dramaturg and director extraordinaire, creative foil and cartographer of my dreams. You have made this play what it is ✨

Well folks, that's a wrap on right to roam shenanigans at @deershedfestival 🌿 It has been a beautiful weekend full of connections to nature, to each other, and to the land we all share. This is why we love events like these - because we get to meet YOU ! And without you, this campaign wouldn't be possible. Right to roam is made up of every single one of you. Everyone who hops that fence, swims in their river, wild camps under the stars, steps off the path, chats to the farmer about access, signs the petition, writes to their MP, comes to our events, or simply likes and shares our content... you are what makes right to roam great, and we are so grateful to share this space with you. So thank you to everyone that stopped by, listened, chatted, and shared their thoughts if you didn't get a chance and still have something to say or a question to ask, drop us a like at [email protected] - we would love to hear from you. We would also just like to say a huge thank you to our amazing local group volunteers Kayleigh, Briony and Gracie for helping out this weekend. It wouldn't have been the same without you. @right_to_roam_west_yorkshire If you would be interested in joining one of our local groups, check out the highlight on our profile for more information. See you out there 🌿 #righttoroam #deershedfestival #roamfree #roammore #wearenature #unlockthecountryaide #peoplearenature

Sit with us for a while, and listen. Among the trees and the breeze, our poet and friend @daniel.grimston shares his poem written for Bridehead. A lovely letter to the land, and a reminder that our memories, our lives, our stories are stitched into the soil. "This place is yours, Because you have lived in it, loved in it, set wishes down it's streams let free ashes into it's air and your stories cannot be bought. They can not strike out your history with the signing of a dotted line." The gates may now be locked, but the stories planted there will always remain. Bridehead is one more enclosure added to a long growing list of lost access, but it will not be forgotten, and it will not be let go off easily. We will do everything within our power to reclaim these places. #righttoroam #roammore #bridehead #microenclosure #access #accessrights #naturepoems #naturewriting #poetry #naturepoems
