✨ IN FLUORESCENCE ✨
A recent collaboration between @danecree and myself for the latest episode of @hellavisiontelevision
This episode - TRACK ATTACK - required not only creating animation but original music as well. I made the track and Dane went out and performed several takes of original choreography to accompany it on a warm day back in February.
The animation was made by both of us over a few weeks 😵💫 a rapid fire sequence of improvisational analog rotoscope experiments using mainly fluorescent drawing materials on a combination of old found papers and notecards. Most of the piece is a layering of our individual sequences side by side - close to a thousand hand drawn frames.
Many thanks to Dane for reaching out to work on something together ✍️💥✍️ felt great to get completely absorbed in this project during this strange shift from winter to spring.
Thanks Hellavision for another invigorating open call and getting me to crack open Ableton finally.

🏆 2026 BEST ANIMATION AWARD 🏆
We are thrilled to announce that IN FLUORESCENCE has been awarded the BEST ANIMATION AWARD at the inaugural LIMINAL Dance Film Festival.
Directed by Dane Cree and Woodlin Latocki, IN FLUORESCENCE stood out for its seamless collaboration between animation, music, and movement, bringing a soft, hand-drawn world to life where choreography ripples across the page like a living notebook.
Congratulations to this incredible team on this well-deserved recognition.
And thank you for sharing your work with LIMINAL, helping us build a space where dance and film illuminate movement’s profound ability to connect, transform, and reveal.

Slide 1: On top of a light blue background are two figures. The figure on the right is a sketch in black pen marks standing with the right arm extended to the side. The figure on the right is in a squatted position and the positive space of the body is filled with a floral print.
Slide 2: Dane Cree is a white man with short brown hair, wearing a black t-shirt. The left side of his face is seen in profile and is highlighted by the light of the sunshine coming from the left side of the picture. His chin is resting against the top of his right hand which is holding a black pen between his pointer and middle fingers. Green plants and trees are blurred in the background.
Slide 3: Woodlin Latocki is a white woman with chin length blonde hair, wearing a black hooded coat and a golden-tan stocking hat. The right side of her face is seen in profile as snowflakes fall around her. The lamp light highlights her blonde hair and hat from the left side of the picture.
