On Wednesday, 1st October Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy will explore Da Lata’s debut album ’Songs From the Tin’ with Patrick Forge and Chris Franck at the inaugural Classic Album Sundays event at Hidden Grooves. Murphy founded Classic Album Sundays 15 years ago and her platform has paved the way for British listening bars and helped foster the vinyl renaissance.
Released 25 years ago, Da Lata’s “Songs From The Tin” was testament to a renaissance in Brazilian music that had been gathering apace in the jazzier margins of U.K. club culture. Mirroring the earlier Brazilian love affairs of U.S. jazz musicians such as Stan Getz and George Duke, this time the music would pass through a new filter, with the sensibilities of DJs and vinyl “diggers” coming to the fore.
Da Lata had formed in the early nineties as an evolution from an earlier band project, Batu, the production duo of musician Chris Franck and DJ Patrick Forge has proved to be an enduring partnership, as they prepare to release their fifth album, Edge Of Blue in October.
Songs From The Tin is best known for the club anthem ‘Pra Manha’ and the Ibiza chill-out classic ‘Cores’, but it goes deeper. Find out more as Da Lata join Colleen “Cosmo” Murphy for a Classic Album Sundays celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album.
Tickets are free but limited and must be reserved in advance (link in linktree and comments). So come along, settle into Hidden Groove’s Hi-Fi cocktail lounge and savour a perfectly mixed drink while experiencing the album the way it was meant to be heard: on vinyl, in full, and in crystal-clear sound. Thanks for listening.
(The artwork say Wednesday 3rd October but it’s actually Wednesday the 1st October :)
