How time flies when you’re having fun! 🙃
Cannot believe it’s exactly 30 years ago today that the second Outside album, The rough and the smooth, was originally released 😳
MASSIVE shout out to these 2 bros #andreasallen #vanchomanoilovich who helped me not only co-produce but sat with me throughout the difficult second half & finishing line (followed by a boys trip to The Dam, literally the moment we finished.) Couldn’t have done it without you guys❤️
And as of today, it’s re-released 😎#doradorecords, with a new master from #AbbeyRoad & on double vinyl too!🤗
It’s not every day/week/month/year/decade/century?!?! that I am on front covers, so I thought I’d better share this ☺️
Heck, in their eyes, I’m priority over Rihanna 🤣
And equal pairing to my man #Omar 😳 /shop-digitalissue/
30 years on…
Proud to announce the re-release of OUTSIDE’s second album, The Rough and the Smooth—out June 27th via @doradorecords , exactly 30 years from its original release.
Remastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios by #MilesShowell, and now available in high-res digital and double vinyl.
Listening back during the remastering process—every note, every phrase—felt like stepping back into the energy of that time. So many musical ideas woven into one album. Still the same heart, now with new clarity.
Endless thanks to everyone who’s been part of this journey.

Heartbreaking to hear of Steve’s passing, such a DON & a truly lovely guy. Was an honour to have him grace some of my music with his talent. Miss you bro 😢❤️#bassguitar
Check out this beautiful article from Kevin Beadle in Blues&Soul magazine from November 1993 and dive back in to the Acid Jazz scene of the 90’s. @cleveland_watkiss@boogiebackrecords@galliano.band@vanessajsimmons@gillespeterson@incognito_world #talkin’loud @patrickforge@farout_recordings joedavismusic @bluesandsoul ..
On the new release side,
Dorado records have just released the brilliant new single from Outside. Entitled
"Movin' On" backed with "If You Come With Me" the A-side
features a vocal duet between Cleveland Watkiss
and Vannessa Simon with musical support from Ernie McKone (Push/Galliano) on
Bass, Thomas Dyani (Incognito) on percussion with a string section comprising Lili Hayden, Mandy Drummond and Jane Cina as well as the band's leader keyboardist Matt Cooper. This has got to be one of the best singles this year and is a superb taster for the LP "Almost In" released at the end of the month. The LP was finished in about two months and features some of the country's best musical talents such as Wayne Batchelor, Roger Beaujolias, Ashley Slater, Earl Zinger and Gary Crosby. The LP is mainly a soulful fusion affair with not one 'dud track' in it's format and in my opinion could well get my vote as best UK LP this year - Easy!!! @kevbeadle63
Tune in @bbc6music , @gillespeterson live now Indeed .. it took me about 20 years to complete my 6th OUTSIDE album, as i have been busy touring, writing, producing with @incognito_world , since my last release back in 2001 Thank you Gilles for playing “flying high” @music_outside
