The sewing endurance event is finally over and I am delighted to say my first solo exhibition is open NOW at @tjboulting ‘Splanchnic’ 6th October - 11th November Tuesday -Saturday , 11am - 6pm TJ Boulting; 59 Riding House Street, London Splanchnic (pronounced ‘splank-nik’) is an anatomical word relating to the internal organs of the abdomen. The guts. The word itself was previously unknown to me but relates to something existing in my own body. I’m fascinated with how we are all composed internally of things that we have a limited understanding or concept of. One aspect of this body of work aims to explore these ideas making the internal and invisible , external and tangible. Massive thank you to my family and partner for their knowledge and support. You are the best. Thank you Colin for helping make my mad idea a reality! And thank you Hannah for finding Janet and trusting me to BRING IT. And finally thank you to everyone who came to opening night and sang me happy birthday 🥳 #body #art #sculpture #anatomy

British artist Daisy Collingridge explores the human form through a tactile blend of sculpture, photography, and performance. Influenced by a medical upbringing and visceral encounters with works like Body Worlds and Damien Hirst’s Hymn, she seeks to make our hidden internal anatomy tangible. Collingridge transforms hand-dyed jersey—in shades of pink, ochre, and orange—into “squishy” anatomical realities. She pushes traditional quilting to its limit, using free-machine stitching to mimic the density of muscle and sinew. Layered fabric provides a unique rigidity, effectively “sculpting” with soft cloth. Her characters are intentionally genderless, emphasising our shared internal composition. Rather than being grotesque, these forms are designed to be emotive and endearing. By utilizing the storytelling tradition of quilting, Collingridge invites the viewer into a whimsical, soft-textured world where the invisible biological self is celebrated rather than feared. What role does connection play in your creative process? “Connection is everything. For me it begins with an intuitive connection to materials and forms. My focus is often rooted in biological structures that link across organisms and wider natural systems; how individual parts rely on each other to exist as a whole. As a maker, I need to feel that connection myself. I have to believe in the work enough to carry it through to completion. Over time I’ve come to understand that this sense of connection extends far beyond the studio. It’s vital to connect with a community, whether that’s other artists or the people who encounter the work. I’ve realised working in isolation can be nourishing, even necessary but the work only fully activates when it’s shared. That exchange of ideas, reactions, interpretations that’s what brings things to life. The connection between people.” — Daisy Collingridge, Midlands, United Kingdom @daisy_collingridge @artistsoncouches #DaisyCollingridge #artistsoncouches #onthecouch #artistarchive #creativeconsciousness

COMING SOON | RESERVE YOUR COPY TODAY! "Every layer of fabric tells incredible stories as her work dances between the boundaries of the beautiful, the grotesque, and what it means to be alive. Her sculptures demand acknowledgement. Plump, pink tummies offer comforting homes for vital organs. Drooping breasts tell stories of motherly love and fleeting youth. Thick thighs bend and wobble in joyful dance. Layers of muscle fold together like an ornate origami sculpture. Here, beauty is perfectly imperfect and reminds us of how we should treasure our flesh and be thankful for our humanity." Can’t believe it’s already been over a week since this magical moment in Times Square! It's mad to witness something that began as an intimate investigation of the tactile body take over such a vast, visually intense space. I was taken aback how the hype and speed of the place slowed for the last 3 mins for the day. A small pocket of stillness in the rush of the big city. Bod is a film about experiencing the body as a shifting, sensory landscape. It moves away from a fixed or anatomical understanding of the body and instead explores it as something soft, unstable, and constantly in flux. It searches for the connections between internal environments and external spaces. Finding links, the repeated patterns. Homology. There are so many people involved in this quiet film. Of course: the genius @isabelamelia.garrett is the director and collaborator; we are lucky that we have this shared visual language which makes collaboration a joyful experience. Isabel creates incredible beautiful and complex worlds and she has the knowledge and experience to translate the imagery we imagine into something tangible on screen. Making anything is always about connections. We made the film at the wonderful @sarabandefoundation a place that actively encourages cross disciplinary collaboration. Massive thankyou also to @xeniacreativeretreat for the support. The one-off performance on 13th March was choreographed and performed by the exceptional @lenaengelstein who also brought on board the wonderful Lisa @ifdanceproblems and Miguel @love.entirely . They all embodied the characters so beautifully and sensitively. Thank you. Big thanks to @djbradfield for curating this surreal film and thank you to @tsqarts for being open and offering an unforgettable experience. And everyone that shaped it: Starring @essiebarrow Director of Photography @danielrm_dop Animation @mcshanedavid_ Grade Will Coker @thefarmgroup Sound Design @_inesadriana_ Composer @willturnercomposer Post Producer Andrew Webb And last but not least thank you to mum and dad for helping me transport suitcases of body parts around New York and for the unwavering support. This month, a playful yet introspective exploration of one’s inner and outer worlds takes over the iconic billboards of Times Square for March’s #MidnightMoment ‘Bod’ by artists Daisy Collingridge [@daisy_collingridge ] & Isabel Garrett [@isabelamelia.garrett ], presented by Times Square Arts [@tsqARTS ] and guest curated by Damian Bradfield [@djbradfield ]. ON VIEW to the public nightly through March 31 from 11:57pm-12:00am in Times Square, in this month’s Midnight Moment a woman dives inside her own bodily form as she prepares for bed, creating an intimate and dreamlike narrative that brings eccentric, intricately layered, and wonderfully lumpy sculptural forms to life.
