✨ Join us on the 4th June, from 6-8pm, for the opening of ‘This and That’, a group exhibition including Francesca Anfossi, Gabriele Beveridge, Jane Bustin, Alan Charlton, Rose Davey, Iain Hales and Gary Woodley ✨ Co-curated by Rose Davey All welcome! @fraanfossi @gabrielebeveridge @janebustin #alancharlton @rosedaveyartist @iainhales @pocketdepartment The gallery and artist Rose Davey are pleased to present their second collaborative exhibition: ‘This and That’. The exhibition proposes that nothing stands alone - every object, colour and idea is understood in relation to another. The exhibition centres around a table made by Gary Woodley, painted by Rose Davey, with stools by Francesca Anfossi. A collaboration between three artists, the table only makes sense when a person sits at it. This logic of legibility through activation is echoed throughout the works in the exhibition. All rely on the presence of something else for the overall artwork to come into being. Alan Charlton’s diptych demonstrates the impact of the combined painted and unpainted canvas, while Rose Davey’s paintings investigate the effect of one colour upon another. The works by Gabriele Beveridge, Jane Bustin and Iain Hales further demonstrate how meaning emerges from the contrasts, spaces and relationships between forms. The exhibition opens in celebration of the @londongalleryweekend and will be open for extended hours on 5th, 6th and 7th June. #sidmotiongallery #thisandthat #rosedavey

"The same paradox present in the paintings – lightness held within density – appears again here. The weight and texture of wood, plaster, stone and metal are balanced with a surprising delicacy. These objects seem less constructed than discovered, their forms arriving through a process of attentive handling rather than predetermined design. Seeing the paintings and sculptures together forces the eye and body to make connections. It is playful, but also deeply human. There is a hint of melancholy there – not sadness exactly, but a kind of recognition born from compassionate attention and quiet humour. They are funny works, though not jokey ones. The humour is closer to the smile that appears when we recognise our own fragility." ✍️ Excerpt from ‘LOOK AT THIS’, the exhibition's text by Matthew Burrows MBE @matthewburrowsstudio . ‘Ancestors’ by Max Wade continues @sidmotiongallery this week Thursday - Saturday 12-6pm 💫 “Set amongst the paintings … are a number of new sculptures constructed from objects reclaimed from Wade’s surroundings and built up with sacking and plaster. These forms feel assembled by hands that understand looking as a physical process. There is something in their directness that recalls the material immediacy of Cy Twombly, where gesture and object inhabit the same field of thought. The sculptures have a clarity of presence that differs from the rich, shifting surfaces of the paintings. They sit firmly in the world - not apart from the paintings, but alongside them, as if playing another instrument in the same ensemble. Where the paintings fracture and open space, the sculptures offer weight and pause. Their colour has edges; their forms carry a quiet gravity.” Excerpt from ‘LOOK AT THIS’, the exhibition text by Matthew Burrows MBE @matthewburrowsstudio 📝✍️ Read in full on the gallery website. @maxwellwade Syncopated, 2026 Wood, stone, paint 170 x 51 x 29cm 📸 by Tim Bowditch #maxwade #ancestors #sidmotiongallery

Join us tonight from 6-8pm for the opening of ‘Ancestors’ by Max Wade 💫 For the exhibition, @maxwellwade introduces a new body of work that marks an important development in his practice: the first presentation of sculptural assemblages alongside his paintings. Developed over the past year, these assemblages are not conceived as a departure from painting but as an extension of it. Wade approaches them with the same sensitivity to material, composition and surface that characterises his canvases. In ‘Ancestors’, painting and sculpture become deeply interconnected, each medium informing and reshaping the other. Together, the works reveal a practice in transition, where ideas move fluidly between two- and three-dimensional forms. Contact the gallery for a full list of works and more images. The exhibition is accompanied by a brilliant text by @matthewburrowsstudio ✍️ Read in full on the gallery website now! #Ancestors #maxwade #sidmotiongallery
