The Unshakable Destiny Trilogy (2021-2025) “She may not always remember, but she will always forget.” The Unshakable Destiny trilogy is a five-year project on the spectres of Hong Kong. An exploration of memory, site and cinema, the trilogy contemplates art-making in the diaspora, as a witness to the slippery political context of a homeland from afar. Expansive in format and storytelling, _2101 (2021), Reprise / Release (2023) and Retrograde (2025) present a necessarily incomplete story of post-2019 Hong Kong diaspora. Always on the periphery, the trilogy shapeshifts as its homeland transforms, moving from a disappearing culture to its haunting and cyclical returns. *** five years ago i thought there was a story to be told, and as the story unfolded and life entwined its tentacles, grew knots all over my insides. i’m constantly writing and re-writing the stories in the trilogy, framing and reframing its visual language. to me, it’s not just a conceptual exercise to iterate, but an acknowledgement to the slippery contexts i exist in. this trilogy is a tending towards grief, towards the unmovable and the unknown, a gesturing inward, finding ease through and alongside its relations. thank you for witnessing this force growing in multiple directions and sometimes going haywire. thank you to absolutely everyone (there’s a lot of you!!) who has supported this project along the way. and most importantly, those who assured me i wasn’t at all a little insane. i am ready to let it live now (maybe until post-phd)

We are excited to announce our event at Melbourne Art Book Fair at @ngvmelbourne this year:
𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬: 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚
Considering archiving as community action, this event brings together QAMERAD @qamerad (Indonesia) and Saluhan Collective @s_a_l_u_h_a_n (Naarm/Philippines) for a discussion exploring independent archival practices in the region, presented by Slow Burn Books. Re-imagining archives as networks of solidarity, this conversation will discuss archival aesthetics, mobility, iteration and ways of building ethical strategies through independent and queer archiving practice. As we observe the politics of porosity and opacity in archival practice, together we ask: “How do we work adjacent to the institutional capture of grassroots archives?” This discussion will be facilitated by Nikki Lam @curiousother (Slow Burn Books), with Syarafina Vidyadhana @__syarafina__ (QAMERAD and Cahyati Press @cahyati.press ) and MJ Flamiano @mjflamiano (Saluhan Collective). → Sat 16 May, 12:30 - 1:30pm
→ Level 1 Gallery Space, Asian Art Collection, NGV
→ Free, no booking required → Link in Bio 🔗 Looking forward to seeing you there 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Nikki Lam as our new Chair. Lam is a visual artist, curator and producer based in Naarm and Hong Kong. Their audiovisual works have been shown across Australia and internationally. Lam is co-director of Hyphenated Projects, an artist-led project for Asian diaspora, and brings advisory experience from contributions to NETS Victoria, ACMI, Next Wave, Footscray Community Arts, and Seventh Gallery to name a few. Lam says: ‘It is a privilege to join Bus Projects as the Board Chair, continuing the wonderful work led by current board, staff, artistic committee and volunteers. I am excited to contribute to the artist-led legacy at Bus Projects and to support an artistic home that has been bringing communities together for discourse, solidarity and experimentation since 2001. I look forward to working alongside current and new board members to strengthen Bus Projects as an initiative that supports artistic expressions and nurtures our collective imaginations.’ Completing the executive team is new Secretary Rosie Cham, a Brunswick lawyer who will soon join the Victorian Bar as barrister, and Melanie Lin, Portfolio Manager for Museums Victoria and former CFO for Creative Australia, continues as Treasurer. Bus Projects's board is also made up of Ruby Aitchison, Ella Cattach, Rosie Hazell, and Emily Wakeling. All Bus Projects board members are volunteers who give their time and expertise to ensuring the organisation fulfils its aims and functions as an artist-run initiative. — Nikki Lam. 2025 has been a year of 🪭 𝒿𝑜𝓎🪭 or the relearning of what joy could be. another year of ending, as i wrapped up the unshakable destiny trilogy after five years. feeling like my grief, too, revered a different expression. 2025 has been a year of scents, of shredding, of friendship and family, silly cakes, red carpet, fjords, capybara, archive fashion, good hair by imoko, slow dinners, witchcraft, soft goth, lady gaga, fit checks at residencies. true to a snake year, i feel like a completely new person comparing to the beginning of 2025. thank you for the beautiful friendships this year and meaningful encounters in indonesia, bangkok, london, bergen, glasgow, nottingham, manchester, sydney and at my homes hong kong and melbourne. this year has turned out to be expansive both in work and life, in shapes that i didn’t expect. as the world burns i have given up (or trying to) old beliefs of capitalism that i knew i could not hack. instead, i’ve tried to return to a practice of small gestures, because i am well and truly exhausted. still figuring it out, i guess this recognition is what healing is supposed to be 🩵 it’s actually been a huge year / too much to mention & many new and old friends who got me thru one conversation at a time🫂 / the last one is a talisman for 2026 from billie. 1- bake cake and eat it 2- white lotus 3- thanks creative australia for the flowers (and moss) with limi friends 4- they are spiritually sydney 5- london’s hottest sausage 6- cosmic house with @_vivienchan
7- clapham @koapham @victoria.kosasie 8- sandy liang lamb cake @l___j___m___ 9- notty @_vivienchan @before.sunset.studio
10- went to minor attractions but the main attraction was @a_y_v_c 11- surprise visit my poh poh and she was so happy 12- leaky ghosts
13- new studio @slowburn_books
14- scorpios @scottheinrich
15- more cake by @l___j___m___
16- melbourne laneway core 2010s by @kaitlinmchan
