Happy #404Day! C.Scott - “1922 Murray Ave.” from Phase 2 (out April 7th!) Taking some time to celebrate today’s beatmaking holiday by sharing a song from my forthcoming album Phase 2 straight out of the 404. I made the entirety of the Phase 2 album on the SP-404MKII. Every sample chop, every sequence- all of it. This track in particular felt like a moment where all my years making beats on this and previous iterations of the SP404 clicked- I was so hype when all of the sequences came together. If anyone is curious, 1922 Murray Avenue in Pittsburgh is the location of the now-defunct Gullifty’s restaurant- the location of a Wednesday night jam session where I cut my teeth as an aspiring teen bassist. When I hooked up the jazz samples that comprise this beat (shout out to my brother @buscrates on the assist), I was transported back to those heady days around 2008- hence the title! Phase 2 Sightseeing Pt. 1 - Mr. D’s Food Fair in Brookfield, Ohio Longtime supporters know that I am no stranger to the joys of a cutty Rust Belt supermarket. Today after performing at the nearby hip-hop vinyl destination @fathippyrecords , I couldn’t resist perusing the wares of Mr. D’s and it did not disappoint. If you’re looking for some authentic Rust Belt surrealism, I highly recommend popping on some headphones and giving Phase 2 a spin while walking through the aisles of Mr. D’s after a dig at Fat Hippy. Tell ‘em Charlie sent ya!

From whence it came, so it shall return. My latest album, Phase 2, started life in this humble basement studio filled with records. Using a Roland SP-404MKII sampler and a Technics SL-1210MK2 turntable, I sat here for hours gathering sounds to chop and rearrange into the beats you hear on the album. Sometimes I’d finish the beats here, other times I’d take the sampler with me to catch a vibe elsewhere- whether on break at work, visiting family, or at least one occasion on vacation. I don’t post a lot of records on the ‘gram these days, but trust and believe, there’s a whole bunch of them in here and that compulsive commitment to crate digging is the root of everything on this album! “The Very Top” from Phase 2 OUT NOW! Peace everyone! Back with another beat from Phase 2 straight out of the SP404. For those who don’t know, in addition to being a hip-hop beatmaker, I’m also a DJ with a special interest in boogie funk and disco. Sometimes those worlds collide. For this beat, I took one of my DJ set crate staples, slowed it down, chopped and layered pieces from throughout the song, laid some hard drums down, and finally sprinkled some classic East Coast hip-hop acapella samples over the top. It’s funny, I remember one night overhearing some chatter outside of a DJ gig I was playing complaining about how I was mixing disco and hip-hop in the same set. Glad I didn’t take that to heart! I knew this track would be a proper beginning to the album- gotta start with the energy high! Big thanks to everyone who’s been listening to, purchasing, and sharing the album! Hello all! My new album Phase 2 is out today and I wanted to share a personal note with y’all. My favorite art tends to be made from a deeply personal perspective that somehow finds a way to engage with the universal. I think we all have a favorite album that feels as though we can live in it for 30 - 80 minutes at a time. I know I have many! I wanted Phase 2 to be that immersive, encompassing snow globe world of an album for someone else. Of course I wanted to express myself and tell my story, but it’s more important to me that someone else can find *their* story in this music. A tall order for a batch of SP404 beats, but you have to have some kind of vision right? Hopefully I succeeded! Some thanks are in order- To Aarie (@aarie86 ) thank you for lending your pen and your voice to this album. You understood where I was trying to come from emotionally on this project seemingly effortlessly. Thank you! To Brad (@bigrivermediawv ) thank you for your work in mastering this album!
