The film installation of Doug Aitkens LIGHTSCAPE has been extended through May 17th!
This particular shot is one of my favorites from the film.
Doug had the idea of revealing the mountain lion through this hallway as our light sequence began—so we walled off the doorway with glass (to separate the camera team & dolly grip from the lion, animal trainers just off of frame) I was outside watching the lion move about and call camera actions as soon as “Rumble” would get close to the zone. We ended up getting a few usable versions but we all knew we nailed the last one as he walked past camera as the blue light pulsed, glanced at us and kept moving. ✌️

“Through May, the Foundation will welcome performances from major musical talents such as the pioneering electronic musician Suzanne Ciani, rock musician Beck with LA LOM, Carlos Niño, and other groups. Dance and choreographic aspects of Lightscape will further be highlighted by performances from the L.A. Dance Project as well as the dancer Konkrete who will be joined by a collective of fellow Krump dancers. All performances will be presented by Doug Aitken Workshop and KCRW.”
LIGHTSCAPE - a film by @dougaitkenworkshop is on display at the @marcianoartfoundation in its prime form as a multi screen installation (last slide).
Music activations from the @laphil@lamasterchorale and others are happening every Saturday please check it out✌️

LIGHTSCAPE (2024)
I had the privilege of shooting this film with Doug and company from Nov 2023 - Spring of ‘24. We traveled all throughout Southern California, from Los Angeles to Death Valley, Lone Pine to Monticito. Too many to thank but very grateful to be apart of such a milestone project. More to come.
Nov 16th - Premiere at the Walt Disney Concert Hall
Dec. 17 - March 15th 2025 on exhibit at the MAF
From the LA Phil:
Step into Lightscape, an expansive multimedia artwork by Doug Aitken, presented in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Marciano Art Foundation!
Combining a feature-length film, a multi-screen fine art installation, and a series of live musical performances, the world premiere of Lightscape will take place on November 16, 2024 within Noon to Midnight: Field Recordings, a 12-hour festival activating Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of PST ART: Art & Science Collide, presented by Getty.
Marciano Art Foundation further expands and develops the vision of Landscape, with an immersive exhibition from December 17, 2024 to March 15, 2025. On a weekly basis, MAF will present live activations of music, dance, and performance across a range of disciplines that contribute to Lightscape’s rich, polyphonic tapestry.
