30,000+ of you liked, shared and commented. 1000s of you wrote to your MPs. 50 of us went to parliament and lobbied our MPs directly for change. You got behind our End 1861 campaign in collaboration with the UK's leading abortion provider
@bpas1968 in your droves.
We made sure our voice was louder than those who are anti-choice. And it worked! Today, in a historic moment for women's rights, amendment NC1 will now go to the House of Lords and once passed will finally put a stop to the criminalization of people who have abortions. The outdated law, that has been in place since 1861, before women had the right to vote, will be gone.
Abortion is now officially a healthcare matter, not a criminal one. The time limit remains the same and abortion will still be a tightly regulated practice, like all other comparable forms of healthcare. There will be no more invasive investigations, inflicted upon women already facing traumatic and complex situations in their lives. This will help the most vulnerable women in society while also protecting our rights, during a turbulent political time.
This is a monumental success, and you helped make it happen. Thank you so much to everyone who engaged in our content, wrote to your MPs and to
@ginamartin @cheerupluv @payzeemalika @sharongaffka @_jessdavies @rubyrare @meganjaynecrabbe @ashleyjames @_nelly_london @nadiawhittomemp @emmalouiseboynton @selfesteem for lending your voice to our campaign.
