Shared Island Learning Cities Programme â âOur Learning Islandâ
Last week, as part of Learning Cities Day, Cork Learning City proudly hosted a three-day series of events under the Shared Island Exchange initiative. This special gathering brought together representatives from UNESCO Learning Cities across the island of Ireland â including Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Dublin, Belfast, and Derry/Strabane â to celebrate and strengthen our shared commitment to lifelong learning.
The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Fergal Dennehy, warmly welcomed delegates from each city to the Lord Mayorâs Chambers, highlighting the importance of collaboration and community in building inclusive learning environments.

Celebrating 30 years of the Dillons Cross Project đ„łđ
Today, the Cork Learning City team had the honour of attending the 30th anniversary celebration of the Dillons Cross Project at Millennium Hall, Cork City Hall. It was an insightful morning filled with inspiring performances by the incredible women of the DXP.
We were moved by the theatrical performance of 'Voices', a powerful work inspired by the shared stories and experiences of learners and their extended families from the Education Unit, Cork Prison, and the Dillons Cross Project.
Thank you to everyone who made this event unforgettable.

Last week, our Learning City Coordinator, Patricia Magee, had the opportunity to present at @belfastmet Staff Conference, sharing the work of Belfast Learning City and how weâre working together to build a culture of lifelong learning.
Denis Barrett, @corklearning joined the conversation and spoke about their inspiring journey as a UNESCO Learning City and the impact theyâve achieved.
It was fantastic to connect with staff, and explore how we can collaborate further to promote learning opportunities for all and I look forward to continuing our partnership to bring our vision to life.
If your organisation is involved in promoting educational opportunities across the city, we would love to learn more!
