On Thursday, 23rd April, Access UCC will host a Traveller Living History Exhibition at UCC as part of the Lifelong Learning Festival, celebrating 21 years of learning, connection, and community engagement. This event honours Traveller culture, heritage, and identity, while also acknowledging the ongoing barriers, particularly anti-Traveller racism, that continue to affect Traveller communities. The day brings together Traveller organisations, students, staff, and the wider public, centring Traveller voices and lived experience. #CorkLovesLearning

My next guest on Shush is Deirdre Madden. Deirdre is an Assistive Technology Outreach Co‑ordinator with UCC’s Disability Support Service, working to widen access to higher education for students with disabilities. A UCC Geology graduate, she has over 20 years’ experience across disability, education, community integration and early years services, including roles with Enable Ireland and the SOAR PATH Enabling Transitions Project. She’s also UCC’s DARE representative.
Outside work, Deirdre is a mam of two, a music lover, a hillwalker, pottery enthusiast, and devoted sidekick to her nutty dog Ernie.
Tune into UCC 98.3FM at 11 on Monday to hear us chat about her role at UCC, the role assistive technology plays in education, libraries and her music selection.
