Colleen Clark Joins the Prestigious Ranks of 8G Drummers
USC School of Music Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies Colleen Clark will sit in as guest drummer with the iconic @8gband on @latenightseth for four nights beginning January 29. Clark joins the @8gband at Studio 8G in New York’s 30 Rock each of the four days she’s performing to write music together and then rehearse before each night’s show.

In 2022, I had the honor of recording in Steve Bailey’s treehouse studio in Myrtle Beach for what would be the first of now many collaborations with my USC colleague and now dear friend, Matt White.
This record is very special as Matt’s arrangements reflect Dolly’s lyrics deeply. Also, the band is outstanding! It was so much fun playing with Demetrius Doctor, Tim Fischer and backing the incredible musician that is Liz Kelley. The record was co-engineered with @cyntheakelley@mattwhitejazz and @lizkelleymusic 🔥
I often tell a story while teaching and touring that I’ve only ever worked with one trumpeter (cornetist on this one) that didn’t miss once in an 8-hour session (let alone recorded the session himself and wrote all the arrangements), and that’s Matt White. He’s a living representation of what it means to stick to a routine and also be unflappable when stuff may or may not hit the fan, living up to his nickname as the Jazz MacGyver.

I had a phenomenal time conducting the North Carolina All State High School Jazz B Band the past two days at @ncstate ! What a phenomenal group of students and teachers, all dedicated to our music. Huge thanks to Marjorie Harrison for taking such great care of all of us directors. Special thanks for @rttrumpet and @burnl4299 for supporting my journey. Huge shout out to @wespk7 for making everything happen and for being an amazing host.
