I never make “my gig today” posts, but my daughter and I are both “working” in the same building today, so I thought it appropriate. She has a Triangle Youth Orchestra performance in Meymandi, and I’ve got Carolina Ballet in Memorial. Sad to miss her performance, but a cool dad moment nonetheless.
Every time I was lucky enough to be on a gig with Bobby Hinson or to just get to share the same space with him, I can remember always walking away thinking “man I need to try to be more like Bobby!” Not a single soul that ever came into contact with that wonderful man ever had anything bad to say about him. He’s one of the most universally loved people I’ve ever known. I can’t think of a single gig of the hundreds we were on together where there wasn’t a receiving line of people from all walks of life at intermission excitedly waiting to say hello to Bobby. He always made everyone in the room feel important. I am completely wrecked now that he is gone, and I know so many people in our circle today that are really struggling as well. I pray for peace for Bobby’s family, and all of us who loved him so much. I share this photo of us backstage on the national tour of hair because I remember thinking every night of that run, “Dang Bobby looks so cool in that dew rag! Why can’t I look that cool?” Here’s to you Bobby, always the coolest guy in the room! We will all miss you so much.
