New episode! @carrie_madeline @emtostado and @julian_s_barthold are rejoined by film editor and all-around great cinephile hang @codboyannis to wrap up their cycle of Oscar-Worthy Rom-Coms with a "Close-Up" on three films written by the prolific Neil Simon: 1967's "Barefoot in the Park," directed by Gene Saks, 1972's "The Heartbreak Kid," directed by Elaine May, and 1977's "The Goodbye Girl," directed by Herbert Ross. Despite the common threads of Neil Simon's writing style (such as speedy couplings of main characters, eccentric supporting roles, and impromptu moments of singing), these films make for an eclectic mix, and the group explores a full range of feelings and takeaways from them! HEY — a new feature documentary I edited w #PaulGreenhouse & #damianrodriguez for fearless director @jake_sumo is premiering at @tribeca this weekend. NYC FRIENDS — go see RON DELSENER PRESENTS on 6/11 & 6/12 & 6/18! It’s a fun film about a scrappy octogenarian concert promoter / rock impresario who’s been the king of New York since the 1960s and refuses to quit working. The dude is hilarious on camera and i had a blast chopping up his hijinks and wisecracks. Also includes new interviews w Simon & Garfunkel, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and other legends. This beautiful thing took years to make and my courageous buddy Jake Sumner poured every ounce of his soul into this baby — the love is all there on the screen. Special shoutout to my Jersey-brother @nickjevans without whom this show wouldn’t go — his tireless work on this moved mountains.
