Hip-Hop’s version of Miami Vice duo is here with their new album, Goldfish...The Alchemist and Hit-Boy hit us with some soul on soul tracks with their introspective raps on top. After working with the best rappers of any generation, they soaked up the rhymes styles and are showing cats how it should be done on the mic. Turning a milestone age hits different in middle aged stage.@bluherfavcolor addresses his mind and spirit state as he turns 40 years old on his new collaborative album, titled 40, with Oakland native producer @augustfanon . There is a nurturing of one’s self that happens when you turn 40. Most of your life has been lived and you start to tally up how much time you have to reach your dreams that are unfulfilled. There is a slight panic on if your life choices have landed you in the best position to achieve your goals. Another reckoning is how intact is your spirit after tussling with the world that’s full of obstacles built to challenge your moral compass. Songs like “Love”, “Happy”, and “Bible” hit this head on. Blue’s uncanny lyrical prowess to make you think about his and your mind frame is magical in effect. What makes things even more intimate is August’s soul scapes that envelopes the message. There are songs that remind you how Hip-Hop can sonically heal through warm vibrations of beats. The features on the album also enhance the theme as artists like @kotathefriend , #HomeboySandman and sene make vulnerable verses victorious in nature. Yet, it’s the transparency of @fashawn and @kingchoosey on “Joy” that really brings home the love that we all wish to have fuel us stay true to our commitments. This album makes the duo of Blu and August stand out more than their usual collaborations as the theme of getting older centralizes the project and the intent gives it a grounding point to celebrate as we all get on with age. Yep, it’s been a while since y’all got one of these @co.x.lab sessions from us, but I’m happy it’s a return for issue 3 with the dynamic duo of NJ’s @therealransom and @daveeast of Harlem, NY. These good brothers provided us with the most solid project, Final Call. So many connotations of it with the Nation of Islam and the Fruit of Islam. Like turning street dudes into men of spiritual enlightenment and community action. The words they rhyme are impactful and intentional for the upliftment of the black man mindstate. It’s an honor to shine light on these guys that have personally raised their own talent levels to set a new bar for their future collaborative ventures. It’s that time again! Back with issue 2 of @CO.x.LAB for y’all. I decided to write a few words on the greatness that is The Auditorium Vol. 1 album by @common & @realpeterock . When have you seen two legends from the early 90’s join forces and hit the press, podcasts, radio, TV and street jams like them? It’s a rare sight...but one that is becoming increasingly popular as we have a few more icons from Hip-Hop’s golden era that are next up. With Com and Pete setting the bar of dopeness, we get to enjoy Hip-Hop in its purest form. We see actual themes in the lyrics as Rashid levels up his formula and flows. Musically, Peter brings that old soul back! He even brought back the interludes at the end of the tracks (I always loved that!). Since there is an Vol. 1 on the title, it’s safe to say we can expect more from this duo in the future...just like us at @co.x.lab . Shout out to the hardworking creative specialist @el_boogie . Today is special...not only because it's my birthday (all shout outs are welcomed😂), but for the fact that my new content brand COxLAB is here! As my career is expanding in new ways, my love for bringing dopeness to the forefront will always be front and center. I see different pairings in music, fashion, tech, finance, art and so much more that goes unnoticed. COxLAB will shed light on those that should be known by many more and hopefully inspire whoever needs that creative energy. Our first offering is the great producer @conductorwilliams . He just contributed to @whoisconway newest album and has some heat with @WestsideGunn project this week. J Cole, Drake and many others are crowning him production president, with those soulfully chopped beats. He linked with New York themed, but Los Angeles based streetwear shop @apt.4b for a T-shirt collab (link to purchase in bio) and we had to hit the pop-up signing. Conductor linked with fans and signed albums and merch to their delight. We thank both CW and Apt 4B for their time and coolness.
