New on Umor Rex / We’re excited to announce “El Sol de los Muertos” by Concepción Huerta @cncpcn —her second album on Umor Rex (catalog UR156). Available on cassette & digital for pre-order now at @anostanost & Bandcamp; shipping begins May 15. Crafted in a subharmonic framework and tape‑manipulated, this album is Concepción Huerta’s sharpest, most abrasive and exhilarating work yet. Rooted in drone and musique concrète, its visceral textures evoke vivid, image‑driven narratives. Huerta’s sound conjures the earth’s open veins—Latin America’s lava rivers of fire—symbolizing dispossession, resource extraction, and colonization. The album warns that these injustices, often relegated to history, still shape our world. It serves as both a tribute to the literary work of Eduardo Galeano, one of the most influential voices of Latin American leftist thought, and a howl from the Lacandon jungle in Mexico, resonating with the Zapatista struggle, the resistance of the Guaraní people in Paraguay and Argentina, and the voices of Indigenous communities across Latin America. In 16th‑century Mexico, Visión de los vencidos gathered Nahuatl texts to tell the defeated’s side of history. Concepción Huerta’s El Sol de los Muertos isn’t a manifesto but an invitation to reflect, urging us to question official narratives and stay vigilant against modern fascism and colonialism. Recorded by Concepción Huerta in 2024 between Berlin, The Hague, and Mexico City. Volcano photography by Magaly Ugarte @wagicmagic . Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at @blackknoll Studio New York. The cover was risograph printed in Barcelona by Mateo Barbuzzi aka @clubdelprado Design by Daniel Castrejón in Mexico City. #umorrex

SATURDAY 23 MAY: DEBIT + CONCEPCIÓN HUERTA A special double bill of two artists pushing Mexican and Latin American electronic music into radically different forms: DEBIT’s high-impact sound design, club mutation and research-driven composition alongside CONCEPCIÓN HUERTA’s tape-scarred worlds of field recording, synthesis, spatial sound and musique concrète. DEBIT is a composer, producer and performer whose work spans avant-garde experimentation, high-impact sound design, and the rhythmic architectures of Latin American dance music. For a decade she has helped recontextualise Latin American music by challenging sonic hierarchies and creating conceptually rigorous and physically direct records. Her new record Potpourri on NAAFI pushes her dancefloor language forward, while 2025’s Desaceleradas turned to cumbia rebajada - the half-speed Monterrey sound of Sonido Dueñez - re-voicing his tapes through ARP 2600, accordion and granular processing. CONCEPCIÓN HUERTA is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist working across sound, visual media, installation and performance. Based between Amsterdam and Mexico City, her practice brings together field recording, synthesis, tape manipulation, spatial composition and audiovisual forms, treating sound as physical, narrative and political material. Her music sits between ambient, noise, drone and musique concrète, rooted in questions of memory, place, silence and embodied listening. Her 2025 album El Sol de los Muertos, released on Umor Rex, is one of her strongest statements to date: a subharmonic, tape-scarred work drawing on volcanic imagery, colonial memory and histories that refuse to stay buried. Two exceptional artists, two distinct approaches to electronics as archive, altered time, spatial memory and cultural transmission. Organised in collaboration with Instituto Cervantes Londres. 🎟 £20 door / £17 advance / £12 members → Tickets via link in stories and cafeoto.co.uk → Doors 7:30pm @deliabeat @cncpcn @institutocervanteslondon
