This poster features a custom type developed by myself and Aaron Troy based on the distinctive back-slanted handwriting of Te Rangihīroa (Sir Peter Buck), created for the University of Otago’s Te Rangihīroa student accommodation designed by Jasmax. For Type Here, this poster draws on the epilogue from The Coming of the Maori, where Te Rangihīroa reflects on identity, coexistence, and the future of Aotearoa. By blending individual letterforms from the last paragraph into a single shape, the typography becomes a metaphor, symbolising interwoven cultures and commentary on the “happy blending” he foresaw.

Celebrating silver at the Best Design Awards 🥈
Paper House won silver at the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards last Friday and we are over the moon for our clients @clemdevine and @phoebegwen 👏
Paper House is a problem-solving exercise in what is a growing challenge in our society - how to create aspirational and beautiful design on the average budget.
The clients absolutely love the result and enjoyed the process as well. We believe design and the joy it brings should not be exclusive, and that this project is one that sets the bar.

Spotlight on Paper House 💡
Last week Clem and Phoebe Devine’s Crosson-designed home, Paper House, took out the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Local Auckland Architecture Award for Small Project Architecture.
The name, Paper House, became a guiding principle for this project. Everything was reduced to a pared-back palette, riffing on the idea of origami and simplicity.
Boasting a unique structural steel design and roofing style, this home overcomes and makes the most of the challenges on a tight site for an unparalleled blend of aesthetics and innovation.
A worthy winner in our opinion 👏
