Childhood dream fulfilled
I told myself in high school I’d run one marathon in my 40s. I really thought most people weren’t as mobile that age, like, who runs in their 40s?? Clearly naive in my thinking yet the ambition was always there.
Time travel to today where
@evonneartis had the idea of us both running LAM. Why? We all turned 40 this year. Mind you, I had NO desire to race LAM since the course change. But her Capricorn logic (gang gang) was the water needed to make this seed I planted years ago finally grow.
Not only that, I had unfinished business to settle.
My last LAM (2020) I THOUGHT I could sub 3 & BQ. Finished with a 3:21:07. Not quite. But since then, switched my approached and became a different runner. A different person.
But as much as this race was my Victory Lap (LLNH) this was also my love letter to the city. From every runner I knew or just met before and during the race to every person/shooter/cheer zone that showed love along the way, I made sure I showed it back. Y’all carried me all 26.2. Everyone talks about New York, but, I don’t know bro. I’ve never experienced anything like I did that Sunday morning.
LA showed up and showed the f*ck out.
To my
@goodvibes_tc family, THANK YOU, for all the behind the scenes things (bottle service, workouts, etc) but especially elevating me into a better runner. Spent half of my training dolo but staying in the gym (what up
@fitjunkie ) and on the trails kept me at ease.
Muchos gracias
@aztitlan for putting my body back together so I can take on this grind. Recovery is just as hard as these workouts. Thanks
@nikela for the bib
(uh let’s just not cut it so close next time)
MOST importantly, s/o my fam for coming to see me race possibly my last LAM (Mom & Aunt at Mile 22, Dad at the finish)
So many more people to thank but I can only write so much. You can only read so much too.
Just know I appreciate you ALL.
March 16, 2025 is a day I’ll never forget.
Oh yeah, sub 3 and BQ secured
Course PR: 2:54:52
