We condemn the siege on #Gaza, collective punishment, genocide, and the growing weaponization of food and water. The situation in Gaza exemplifies the ever-increasing use of food and water as weapons in conflicts worldwide. An analysis of UN data conducted by the international aid organization Oxfam revealed that just 2 percent of the food supply that had been scheduled to be delivered to Gaza since the start of the "war", when Israel further tightened its 16-year blockade, has actually arrived in the Gaza Strip. As such, the siege is effectively starving 2.2 million people. "All I fear now is watching my children die of hunger and thirst," said a Palestinian resident of the Sheja'iya neighborhood of Gaza City. "The fear of Israeli airstrikes has become secondary for us. I wish that my children and I could be hit by an airstrike instead of the slow death from the lack of food. At least if we were struck by a plane, I wouldn't mourn my children, and I would die with them. But now, in the face of food shortages, I fear the day when I will find my children dying from starvation, and I can't save them." The #RightToFood and the #RightToWater are fundamental and universal #humanrights. On this International Day (and always), we call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and safe, unobstructed, and uninterrupted access to life-sustaining resources for the people of Gaza. #Palestine #freepalestine Source: 972 Magazine

A huge thank you to @nbc @nbcnewyork for featuring the work of @chilisonwheels ! For almost a decade, our organization has been working to make Veganism and plant-based food accessible to those who may not have the resources or the knowledge to go vegan. Our mission is not only to provide meals but to create a more just and equitable world for all Beings, which is why coalition building and policy advocacy is at the core of all we do. The feature on NBC highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving our goals-- Chilis on Wheels has always relied on the generosity and support of our community and volunteers to make our work possible. We are fortunate to have partners like @bhakticenter who share our vision and are willing to lend their time, resources, and expertise to help us reach more people and make a more significant impact. We hope the exposure we received from the NBC feature will inspire others to get involved and advocate for Veganism and social justice. Thank you again to NBC for recognizing our work and helping us spread our message! #vegan #plantbased #climatecrisis #climateaction #foodjustice #foodrelief #animalwelfare #animalrights #veganism

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Join us to demand a more equitable & just food system in New York! We’re calling on individuals and organizations in New York State to urge State Legislators to invest in ending hunger, strengthening sustainable food systems, and protecting fair labor practices. 🌱INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS TAKE ACTION: Find your NY State Senator: www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator | Deadline: Feb 6 at 12 PM Individual call/email script: “I’m a constituent of Senator [Name] from [City/Zip code]. I’m calling to urge Senator [Name] to support a $2 million investment in a statewide network of community-rooted Local Food Councils (LFCs) in the FY 2026–2027. New York needs both strong anti-hunger programs and long-term, community-led solutions. I respectfully request that my Senator sign on to Senator Rachel May’s letter of support, so that final budget will secure a healthier, more democratic future for all New Yorkers. Thank you.” Organization call/email script: “I’m a constituent of Senator [Name], representing [organization] and it’s supporters. Thank you.” 🤝 Why? Local Food Councils (LFCs) help communities work together to make food systems stronger, fairer, and more reliable. They connect residents, farmers, businesses, and local leaders to respond to food emergencies, support local food, and ensure people have better access to healthy, affordable meals. New York already has 13 Local Food Councils serving communities across the state. Together, we can build a more democratic food system for all New Yorkers. 💪🌱 #NewYork #FoodJustice #EndNYHunger #HungerFreeNY #FoodCouncils #Policy #NYState #FoodAccess #MutualAid #Community #ClimateJustice #NYCEats #NYC

Emily Lin, a 2025 Plant Powered Youth Fellow, just made history in her school district! On January 7, 2026, Emily successfully advocated for the El Monte Union Board of Trustees to pass a resolution creating a student-led Dietary Inclusion Council. “My main goal with the Dietary Inclusion Council is to make sure that every student is heard and has the ability to implement changes within the cafeteria, especially when it comes to plant-based meals.” Thanks to Emily’s advocacy alongside El Monte Union Director of Nutrition Services Suzy Sayre and Nutrition Coordinator Toni Fu, every school in the district now offers a plant-powered option Monday through Friday, including vegan buffalo nuggets, plant-based meatballs, and veggie dumplings. 🌱✨ Read more: /articles/el-monte-union-students-to-help-shape-meal-plans-through-dietary-inclusion-council/?slideshow=y# #PlantBased #Nondairy #ElMonte #SchoolFood #Sustainability #LactoseIntolerant #Nutrition #PlantBasedFood

Breaking News! As of January 15, 2026, school districts can offer soy milk directly on the lunch line to any student—and must provide a non-dairy milk option when a parent requests it for a child with a disability, including lactose intolerance. This is a big step forward for student health and equity. Every child deserves access to a nutritious beverage at school, and for many students, especially students of color who experience higher rates of lactose intolerance, that means ensuring non-dairy beverages are available. Until now, too many families faced unnecessary barriers to getting plant-based milk at school. After more than six years of advocacy, we’re thrilled to see this change go into effect and open the door to more inclusive, science-aligned school meals. Huge thanks to the Plant Powered School Meals Coalition, students, parents, and school nutrition professionals who helped make this win possible! #PlantBased #Nondairy #LactoseIntolerance #Policy #Nutrition #Equity #Sustainability #SchoolMeals #FreedomofChoice
