Over the last few weeks, together with Francisco Estivallet
@chicoe we ran
@touchdesigner and LED workshops for postgraduate students at the Institut del Teatre Barcelona, as part of the Programme Escenificació i Tecnologia Digital
@postgrau_escena_tecnologia
This was not a technical tutorial.
We approached light and code dramaturgically. LEDs and TouchDesigner were treated as performers, able to build tension, pause, interrupt, respond, and shape the emotional rhythm of a scene.
A big part of the workshop focused on concept and storytelling. Before touching the software, students worked on defining an intention and a narrative. Technology came later, as a way to support the story rather than lead it.
We focused on shaping
behaviours rather than effects
systems rather than presets
timing and tension rather than decoration
Starting from zero, students moved from first principles to building their own small installations. What mattered most was not polish, but clarity of idea and how media behaves in space and time.
Working inside the Institut del Teatre, one of Europe’s oldest performing arts institutions, made this process especially meaningful. It showed how hands on, interdisciplinary approaches can open new ways of thinking about scenography, performance, and digital media.
Huge thanks to Marc Villanueva Mir

@xescasalvacerda for the trust, and to the students for their focus, curiosity, and willingness to experiment.
