Last Tuesday, Colorado chefs showed their gratitude to legislators for believing in equitable food access for all Coloradans!
@wholesomewave empowers chefs to use their voices for food systems change through the OneKitchen education and mentorship program. In Colorado, @chef_danielasher , @therussfox , @kennyminton advocated for Props LL & MM, which passed in November. Props LL & MM passing means that:
✅ Colorado public schools will continue to serve free school breakfast and lunch for ALL students for years to come. More schools can participate in the state’s Local Food Program, where they receive funding to purchase local foods, as well as technical assistance and training to help kitchen staff use local, fresh ingredients in school meals.
✅ Local farmers and producers will have more opportunities to sell their foods to Colorado schools, a win for the local economy and student health!
✅ Leftover funds can help relieve some of the cuts to SNAP proposed in HR1/the federal budget reconciliation.
To express their gratitude, the chefs delivered food goody bags directly to the legislators that led the Healthy School Meals for All bill, which ultimately became Props LL & MM on the state’s 2025 ballot.
This is a great example of the policy process: the work doesn’t stop after a budget is passed! We’ll continue to show our gratitude as we gear up for Props LL & MM work to begin. Thanks chefs! 👏👏👏

Federal programs that help schools, daycares, and food banks buy Colorado-grown food aren't just good for delicious plates; they're good for our economy. Every dollar spent on produce from local farms stays in our community, creates jobs for our neighbors, and puts nutritious meals on tables for our kids.
