Some people come into your life and quietly become family—*ore bi omo iya*—the kind of bond that time, distance, or circumstance can never break. In 1998, I had just registered a business name and needed a logo for my letterhead. With nothing but a rough sketch of what I had imagined, I walked into a small business centre on Apapa Road one early morning. Back then, digital design was a rare skill. Computer operators were few, and many carried themselves with an air of pride that made them almost unapproachable. But that day, I met someone different. A frail, tall young man with a calm, welcoming presence approached me and gently asked how he could help. His humility was striking. I showed him my sketch, and he said he would try to create something close. I remember replying, half hopeful, half demanding, that I didn’t want something close—I wanted something better. Truthfully, I had no choice but to trust him. When I returned the next day, he had done more than I imagined. He created what has, to this day, remained the signature logo of Masterminds Productions—now Masterminds Creatives Ltd. That was the beginning of something deeper than work. Lookman was not just a designer; he was a vessel of rare creative brilliance. His ingenuity was magnetic, the kind that pulls you in and keeps you there. We bonded instantly, not just because of his talent, but because he welcomed my critiques with openness and grace. From that point on, we became family. I knew him beyond the work—through his love for Grace Morenike Oladiyo, who later became his wife, fondly known as Iya Ayo, mother of four wonderful boys. I watched him grow, move from one phase of his career to another—from the business centre to Interpublic, and later paths that briefly took us out of touch. But fate brought us back together. One day, while making a presentation at CSA Productions, owned by Dr Henry Nzekwu, I looked across the room—and there he was again, seated at the design desk.
