This weekend was the second of the
@gbprecisionrifleassociation world championship qualification matches at Monmouth and with storm Dave in attendance, it ended up being one of the most brutal yet rewarding matches I’ve ever shot.
Day one saw average winds of 15-16mph with gusts to 35, day two being a little more calm with 12-13mph winds and 22mph gusts. The conditions made the COF
@adamsinfield had put out so much more testing, despite opting for slightly larger targets.
Fortunately for me, I had an amazing squad of people who all worked together, figuring out wind calls and sharing their experiences. This could only ever be a starting point however, with wind changing direction and strength even between shots! Not sure I’ve ever held 0.8 on a 50m KYL before!
Despite the conditions and being battered by the winds, our squad had a great laugh throughout. Thank you guys, you made the weekend!
I felt like I’d got rid of much of the rust from the first match, making only a couple of minor errors. More importantly, I learnt a lot about shooting in the wind and made some good corrections to stay on target.
My performance was good enough to take the overall win, ahead of my MPA team mate
@josh.precisionrifle in second and
@theryancharlton in third. More important to me was getting top factory and a 100 score for qualification! It was also a clean sweep in factory for team MPA with
@bennw92 taking third. Also shooting his socks off was Reuben taking 2nd in juniors!
Thank you to
@izzi_wright for the pictures. Little break now before the next match at zero one in May.
